Youareexpectedtohavesomedegreeofpain,discomfort,andswelling,difficultyinmouth
opening,minorbleedingortasteofbloodinyoursalivaoverthenextfewhours/days.
MedicationsPainkillers:Panadolisusuallytakenregularlyandothersasrequired.Wehave
indicatedonyourscriptwhenandhowtotakeeachofyourmedications.Antibiotic:Insome
situationsyouwillbeaskedtotakeacourseofantibiotic.Ifso,itisveryimportanttocomplete
thecourse.
Eating
Pleaseavoideatinganythingtoohotuntilyournumbnessgoesaway.Thiswilltakeabout2-3
hours.Afterthatyoucaneatanythingthatyoucantolerate.Inmostsituations,itiswisetohave
somethingsoftforafewdaystominimizediscomfort.
Mouthcare
1. Teethcanbebrushedcarefullyusingasofttoothbrush-butavoidingsiteofsurgery.
2. Usecommercialmouthwashes(eg.Savacol)gentlyfor30secondsfromtonight-twicedaily.
3. Yourstitchesareusuallyself-dissolvingandwilltakeabout2weekstodisappear.
Bleeding
Smallamountofoozeisnormal.Topreventanyexcessivebleeding,pleaseavoidanyphysical
exercisesorconsumptionofalcoholfornext2days.Ifbleedingisabitmoreserious,please
placeapackofgauzeinsideyourmouthandapplypressurewithyourfingersfor10minutes.If
itdoesnotstopthenpleasecontactus.
Swelling
Youcanreducetheswellingbyapplyingapackoficedpeasorsomethingsimilaronyourface
for10minutesduringthefirst24hoursafterthesurgery.
