RITE OF BAPTISM
The Sacrament of Baptism is often called the “Door of the Church”, because it is the first of the seven sacraments that a Catholic may receive during his/her lifetime and as such the reception of the other sacraments depend upon it. Through baptism the person becomes a member of the community of believers, the Church. Baptism is the way the Church celebrates and manifests God’s loving embrace of God’s beloved creation: the child being baptized. The Sacrament of Baptism celebrates a family's and a community's experience of God’s infinite love. ELIGIBILITY Infants may be baptized in Mary, Huesman or Leavey chapel if they are the children of the following: • Alumni of LMU or Loyola Law School. • Undergraduate or graduate students currently enrolled at LMU and Loyola Law School. • Faculty or staff members of LMU and Loyola Law School. PREPARATION To begin the process of baptism we ask the parents to first contact Fr. John Galvan, S.J. at Campus Ministry, 310. 338. 7534, to discuss the plans. Final approval will be granted by the Director of Campus Ministry, Fr. James D. Erps, S.J. Once approval is granted, we ask that the parents complete and return the attached forms to Campus Ministry. In addition to these forms the following criteria must also be met and presented to Campus Ministry before the date of the baptism can be reserved. 1. A Certificate of Completion, or, a letter from the pastor of the family's parish stating that the family has satisfactorily met the diocesan baptismal preparation process. 2. Written approval from the pastor of the family's parish stating that the parents of the infant are active members of the parish community. 3. The official Birth Certificate of the child must be presented. 4. The parent(s) must provide a priest or deacon to conduct the baptism. Loyola Marymount University

INFORMATION & REGULATIONS FOR CELEBRATIONS IN THE UNIVERSITY CHAPELS
**Please forward this information to your guests and vendors.
The chapels are first and foremost houses of worship and are to be maintained as such. Furthermore, they are houses of worship
designed and consecrated primarily for worship in the Roman Catholic tradition. Any person who is granted permission to use the
chapels willingly agrees to adhere to the specific guidelines as contained in this policy statement. It is imperative that the sanctity of
the worship spaces be honored at all times regardless of the desires of any person, groups of persons, or organization that occupy
the worship spaces. Any person, group of persons, or organization that violates any of the following guidelines, whether individually
or collectively, does so with the full realization that their actions constitute the automatic forfeiture of the deposit and the denial for
any future use of the chapel. It is your responsibility, and yours alone, to ensure that your guests understand these guidelines
intimately. Finally, the Liturgy & Music staff reserves the sole judgment, arbitrary, and binding right to stop any ceremony, service,
event or function at any time if the sanctity of the spaces and/or policy are not honored.
