Some people know exactly which career they want to
pursue. Others have a passion for a particular major but
don’t know what they’ll “do” with it after they graduate.
And others aren’t sure which path to take in college. No
matter where you are, UMBC’s CareerPath, an interactive
academic and career planning tool, can help you to explore
the relationship between college majors and careers.

ou can browse by major or by career, or enter a major or
career in the box. You’ll find information illustrating the
sometimes-surprising ways in which majors and careers are
related. Navigate through sample careers by major, sample majors
by career, detailed information on majors, year-by-year plans,
sample resumes, graduate study options and more. Watch short
videos of UMBC alumni telling stories about their career paths
to such varied (and sometimes unexpected) jobs as entrepreneur,
financial advisor, scriptwriter, attorney, researcher, software
developer, marketing manager and museum curator.
See where CareerPath leads you!
Choosing an appropriate major for a future career is not always
an obvious decision. Many graduates find that their academic
experience prepared them for careers they never dreamed of.
That’s one of the messages of UMBC’s new CareerPath database,
an aid for exploring career options. Included are video profiles
of successful UMBC alumni who tell how their undergraduate
experiences relate to their current careers.
Integration with UMBC Catalog
CareerPath is interwoven with UMBC’s online catalog in a way
that promotes discovery. Links from majors guide students to
information including an introduction to the field, the UMBC
curriculum and a year-by-year plan for success in launching a
career.
Sample fields are cross-listed with disciplines in the database,
allowing browsing and searching of careers or majors.
