Academy News Friday 20th July 2012 www.burlingtondanes.org Curtain falls on a stunning year 2011-12 has been a stunning year at BDA. Every week has been marked by some special events: the crosscurricula project, Christmas concerts, the carol service, the magnificent Hairspray production, First Story, 100 club assemblies, charity week, the Tea Dance, rank orders, visitors, weekly mentions by ministers and broadcasters, India, House of Lords…the list is endless and there has never been a quiet moment. But the beating heart of the school is your tremendous teachers. Please thank them for working so hard and for being so good. Without them we would be very lost. A special thanksgiving service was held on the last day of term that provided an opportunity to thank God for all the wonderful memories we have created this year. Important notices for the summer holiday ahead… Summer Holiday at BDA: Although pupils have broken up for the summer holiday BDA remains open. Reception will be open from 8.00am – 4.00pm Monday to Friday. The School Uniform Shop: This will be open at the following times for new and existing parents to purchase uniform. Monday – Friday 27th July: 10.00am – 3.00pm. Monday 30th July – Friday st 31 August: 9.00am – 4.00pm. Please note that the uniform shop will be CLOSED on the first week of the school term, 3rd - 7th September. Seven New prefects learn leadership lessons Mr Adcock took his new team of Year 11 prefects on a trip to Westminster on Thursday to explore what it means to be a leader. They stopped at the Churchill Museum before drama teacher Mr RowlandsRoberts led the group on a guided tour of Parliament Square. The former actor and London tour guide treated the new prefects to speeches and stories about the illustrious figures immortalised by statues in the square – Churchill, Mandela and Lincoln to name a few. Congratulations to Yasmin, Daniel, Dillon, Fyela, Ruki, Abdillahi, Ahmad, Emishka, Andre, Michkat, Amina, Jadon and Miki on becoming prefects. This week’s quiz answers: 1. Greece 2. I really enjoyed our end of year Rewards Assembly and the chance to celebrate all your achievements in your subjects, in the merit rank order, in attendance and in the Daybooks. Well done Year 7. Surely no –one could disagree with me saying that you are the year group that has undergone the greatest transformation and may I also add the most charming and the loveliest characters I have ever come across. You have given the tutors and myself so much and it is has been so worthwhile, watching you grow into wonderful students. Take time over the summer to reflect on your Key Stage 3 experience and when you return in September, be ready to take on the challenges of Year 10. Have a fantastic summer. It has been great working with you this week from the work experience celebration assembly on Monday through to the many interventions that have taken place during the week. You have ended the year really well and this puts you in a great position when starting Year 11. The intervention groups are key so make sure you reflect over the summer and think about what you need to do in order to achieve GCSE grades you can be proud of in August 2013. Have a great summer.
