Curtain falls on a stunning year
2011-12 has been a stunning year at BDA. Every week has been marked by some special events: the crosscurricula project, Christmas concerts, the carol service, the magnificent Hairspray production, First Story, 100
club assemblies, charity week, the Tea Dance, rank orders, visitors, weekly mentions by ministers and
broadcasters, India, House of Lords…the list is endless and there has never been a quiet moment. But the
beating heart of the school is your tremendous teachers. Please thank them for working so hard and for
being so good. Without them we would be very lost.
A special thanksgiving service was held on the last day of term that provided an opportunity to thank God
for all the wonderful memories we have created this year. The closing prayer is an appropriate way to sign
off the year in the newsletter:
Lord of Love, whose light daily shines on our school,
We offer these prayers of thanksgiving,
That in us you may continue to dwell,
Through us you may continue to work
And by us you may continue to bless our city…
As we begin our summer holiday, take us and use us to serve others,
To bring hope and healing to all we meet
And to live lives of peace..

BDA through the years
Ms Quinton – Yr7:
Good afternoon Year 7 and congratulations on completing your first year
at Burlington Danes Academy. I am extremely pleased with the progress you have made as a year
group in your learning and behaviour. I am especially thrilled with the many of you who have met or
exceeded your target grades. I really enjoyed our end of year Rewards Assembly and the chance to
celebrate all your achievements in your subjects, in the merit rank order, in attendance and in the
Daybooks. Well done Year 7. Have a fantastic summer and I look forward to seeing you in September for
Year 8.
Ms Akingbule – Yr8:
Good afternoon year eight. We have had a fantastic and rewarding
academic year. Well done to the following students who were nominated as students of the year, Aaron
Blackburn 8B, Kinsi Dualeh 8U, Samrawit Elias 8R, Raissa Macedo 8L, Aaron Sylvan 8D, Chiara Kafero –
Roberts 8A and Ashley John Prince 8N. Have an enjoyable summer break and come back refreshed for
a very busy academic year. Do not forget to read a book.
Mr Stephenson – Yr9:
Good Afternoon Year 9. What a fantastic year. Surely no –one
could disagree with me saying that you are the year group that has undergone the greatest
transformation and may I also add the most charming and the loveliest characters I have ever come
across. You have given the tutors and myself so much and it is has been so worthwhile, watching you
grow into wonderful students. Take time over the summer to reflect on your Key Stage 3 experience and
when you return in September, be ready to take on the challenges of Year 10. Have a fantastic
summer.
Ms Aitken – Yr10:
Good afternoon Year 10. It has been great working with you this week
from the work experience celebration assembly on Monday through to the many interventions that have
taken place during the week. You have ended the year really well and this puts you in a great position
when starting Year 11. The intervention groups are key so make sure you reflect over the summer and
think about what you need to do in order to achieve GCSE grades you can be proud of in August 2013.
Have a great summer.
