Topics covered include the knowledge of God as Creator, Saviour and Lord; the relationship between God and the world; the saving work of God in Jesus Christ; the work of God’s Spirit in applying salvation; the life of faith and the end of history. The unit is an introduction to the study of the New Testament focusing on assisting students to read the New Testament writings aware of their historical, literary and theological nature. There is a particular emphasis on the structure, content and distinctive theological emphases of Ephesians on Monday and the Gospel of Mark on Friday. It will assist in the development of the student’s commitment to living a life consistent with the teachings of the Bible, and of building God’s church by the proclamation of the Word through effective, loving relationships. Unit includes a one hour per week preaching workshop selected from times on Tuesday at 8.05am or Wednesday at 2.00pm. A competent use of Hebrew grammar and syntax will ground the student’s subsequent OT exegetical and theological work in the original forms of expression of the text. CM153 Cross-Cultural Christian Communication This unit provides the student with a framework for understanding and relating to cross-cultural diversity and the processes involved in cross-cultural communication. It focuses on significant issues that have shaped the role of women in Australian society and explores the church’s response to these issues from a theological and personal perspective. It relates to the other units in the diploma by moving beyond the historical circumstances to the theological issues that underpin the events. It will assist in the development of the diplomat’s ability to theologically reflect on current societal norms through understanding the effects of previous significant issues.
