your company to fully participate under The South African CEO SleepOut™ brand banner, and give you access to a Sympathy
SleepOut™ Toolkit containing all the collateral you will need to spread the message of your involvement in this national Call to
Action.
Businesses are allowed to charge Participants to take part at their discretion, but only to cover the costs of hosting The Sympathy
SleepOut™. No money should be made by the company, in the spirit of the Event’s ethos and Terms and Conditions.
WHO ARE THE SYMPATHY SLEEPOUT™ BENEFICIARIES?
The CEO SleepOut™ Brand focuses on Beneficiaries who work within the 5 pillars required for the homeless and vulnerable to
be reintegrated into the community – namely:
1. Shelter
2. Nutrition
3. Healthcare
4. Education
5. Community
This year’s focus pillar is shelter, especially for abandoned babies and children, and Beneficiaries who work within this area were
therefore selected.
The Satellite Beneficiaries span the nine provinces of South Africa, and are aligned to The Sympathy, South Africa and School
SleepOut™s. Participants are able to select one Satellite Beneficiary in their province, and collect items from their in-kind wish-list,
or offer services to them. Items or services must be delivered by your company directly to your chosen Satellite Beneficiary within
two weeks of your Event.
The CEO SleepOut™ Trust appointed Child Development and Protection Consultant, Luke Lamprecht, to spearhead the
Beneficiary selection process. The CEO SleepOut™ Trust and Luke Lamprecht also engaged with an expert panel, who guided the
selection with considered comment and rankings. The panel included:
Caroline Rose: former CEO of The Thusanani Children’s Foundation, Caroline qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 1994
and has applied her trade in The UK and South Africa. With over 20 years of experience, Caroline is a respected Occupational
Therapist & Child Specialist.
Dr Janet Lumb: an adoption paediatrician, performing medicals on abandoned and neglected babies in the Gauteng area for
The Thusanani Children’s Foundation, and
Katinka Pieterse: with 20 years of experience as a social worker in the child protection field, Katinka is currently the CEO
and Director of Abba Specialist Adoptions & Social Services. She is also a chairperson on the National Adoption Coalition of
South Africa.

CAN WE RAISE MONEY FOR OUR BENEFICIARIES?
The Sympathy SleepOut™ Participants should only collect items for their selected Satellite Beneficiary; each one has offered an
in-kind wish-list to guide collections. No funds can be raised for Satellite Beneficiaries. This is to ensure Beneficiaries get exactly
what they need – and no financial auditing need take place. The CEO SleepOut™ Trust is not responsible for any funds collected
at a Sympathy SleepOut™; please refer to the Terms and Conditions for more information.
HOW DO WE DONATE TO THE SHE-EO SLEEPOUT™ BENEFICIARY?
The SheEO SleepOut™ main Event, where female business leaders will spend a night outdoors at The Union Buildings, is raising
funds for our Primary Beneficiary, Door of Hope. Should you wish to contribute financially to the Primary Beneficiary, please feel
free to donate towards a Participant of The SheEO SleepOut™.
Alternatively, should you wish to donate R10 to a Participant via SMS, SMS the Participant’s unique code (indicated in the donate
form) to 38222. We are supported by Vodacom as a Contributing Sponsor within the Champions Line-Up. SMS charges have been
dropped for this initiative.

HOW ELSE CAN WE SUPPORT THE MOVEMENT? <new question>
Each year, The CEO SleepOut™’s affiliated content production brand, 1World, creates Special Edition Publications. HopeTalk is
given to the street vendors who sell Homeless Talk, who are able to sell the publication for R10 and keep the proceeds. Advertising
is sold in this publication, and a portion of proceeds is then donated to Homeless Talk to pay salaries and maintain their offices.
In 2017, we are releasing a digital publication called KIDlanthropy. This is aimed at learners aged 11 – 17 and covers the topics
of empathy and philanthropy for teens and children. This will be distributed to schools across the country, in collaboration with
Community Hours and D6 School Communicator.
Should you wish to advertise in these publications, please email [email protected] for a rate card.
WHAT IS EXPECTED OF ME, AS A SYMPATHY SLEEPOUT™ PARTICIPANT?
Use your Toolkit:
Upon registration, you will be sent a Toolkit, which contains all our brand bible, collateral and information you can use to plan your
Event. We encourage you to make full use of this Toolkit. The CEO SleepOut™ and affiliated brands are covered by trademark, and
correct usage of the brand is crucial. You can also find the Toolkits in our Media Centre.
Spread the message:
While your pledge to collect items for your chosen Satellite Beneficiary is a generous contribution to the movement of change,
each Participant is also asked to help us gain exposure, to spread the message of transformation, and help bring attention to the
plight of South Africa’s homeless communities.
To help you spread the message, we suggest you download and use our branded e-signature, Facebook Cover Image or Twitter
Cover Image, designed to let your peers know you are taking part. These can be found in your Toolkit, which was emailed to you
after registration, or in our Media Centre.
You can also engage with us on social media.Visit our Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, or Instagram pages, and share our message with
your networks.
We ask that you assist in getting others involved too. Challenge other companies to take part in The Sympathy SleepOut™, or to
join the movement as a supporter.
You can also visit our online shop where Participants of The SheEO SleepOut™, and the Sympathy, South Africa and School
SleepOut™s can purchase items that will be helpful for their Events, including warm clothes which can be co-branded with their
own logo. The CEO SleepOut™ also gives back. Purchasing items over a certain amount will automatically send a much-needed
Gift for Good hamper, filled with expertly-selected child- and baby-care items, to our Satellite Beneficiaries, who all work to create
safe environments for abandoned youths. The Gifts for Good can also be bought separately and will be donated by The CEO
SleepOut™.
On the night of The Sympathy SleepOut™, you are only expected to arrive with an open mind and open heart. To throw yourself
into the fleeting experience of being homeless, and take the time to reflect, discuss, and commit to finding a better way forward for
all South Africans. Share your experience on your social media channels using (#RiseToTheChallenge, #CEOSleepOutZA).
After your Event, you will be sent a questionnaire, in which you will be asked to let us know about your SleepOut™, what you
collected for Beneficiaries and how it affected you. You will also be asked to send us any pictures you took on the night. This is
incredibly valuable for us, in order for IQ Business to measure the Social Return on Investment of the items, and the impact of the
Event. We would be grateful if you respond.

WHAT NOT TO BRING
To get the most out of the experience, and get a small taste of homeless life, we suggest you do not bring:
Luxury bedding: pillows, duvets etc. The aim is to commit to sleeping rough for one night.
We suggest you do not bring extremely valuable items, or extra and unnecessary electronic equipment. Alcohol. All alcohol is strictly prohibited at CEO SleepOut™ and satellite events as this is time for reflection.

CAN A FRIEND, FAMILY MEMBER OR PET COME WITH ME?
Any supporter of your company’s commitment may join your company’s Sympathy SleepOut™, provided you have space and security
to accommodate them. You can also encourage groups and schools to participate in The South Africa and School SleepOut™s, in
solidarity, on their respective outdoor areas or school grounds. We suggest your pets remain in their home environments.
CAN I LEAVE EARLY?
As we hope to get every Participant to fully commit to roughing it for one night, in an effort to gain an understanding and empathy
for the homeless and homelessness, we ask that you do not leave early (with the exception of having a medical condition). Please
plan accordingly.
