- controlled all riverboat traffic in New York.
- charged high taxes to other riverboat operators.
2. Gibbons vs. Ogden - 1824

- Sup. Ct. said – “Only Fed. govt. can regulate interstate

3. McCulloch vs. Maryland - 1819
- Maryland was taxing the Nat. Bank in Baltimore
- Sup. Ct. said – “States can’t tax the Fed. Govt.”
4. Fletcher vs. Peck - 1810
- Georgia had a law which did not allow citizens
to enter into contracts.
- Sup. Ct. said the law was unconstitutional.
