REGLAS DE LA CLASE DE LA SRA. C. 1. RESPECT ALL STUDENTS, TEACHERS, AND PROPERTY! Treat others as you would be treated. Racial slurs, sexist remarks, or other negative comments will NOT be tolerated. 2. COME PREPARED TO LEARN with any supplies you need. Passes will only be given in emergencies, so take care of your needs before or after class. Special bathroom pass halfsheet will be issued; max. three trips per semester. 3. PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS. Participation is very important to your grade, and you cannot participate if you aren’t paying attention. Behavior that interferes with anyone’s learning will not be tolerated. 4. BE ON TIME. TARDY POLICY: Tardy students must sign in upon entering class. Tardy #1: Verbal warning. Tardy #2 & 3: Stay after class and see me. Tardy #4: DETENTION for 15 minutes & PHONE CALL HOME. Tardies #5-ON: REFERRAL and office consequences Realize that you may also miss the beginning of tests or work begun at the start of the hour, and that could affect your grade. 5. NO FOOD, DRINK (except water), GUM, PHONES, HEADPHONES, SKATEBOARDS, OR INAPPROPRIATE CLOTHING ALLOWED! ABSOLUTELY NO TEXTING IN CLASS OR YOU WILL LOSE YOUR PHONE! This is school policy and is not open for debate. CONSEQUENCIAS 1. VERBAL WARNING. 2. STUDENT-TEACHER CONFERENCE. 3. PHONE CALL HOME/DETENTION. SERIOUS /REPEATED DISRUPTIONS WILL BE REFERRED RESULTING IN POSSIBLE LOSS OF CREDIT THAT DAY. NOTEBOOKS (CUADERNOS) are a large part of your grade and will be checked at the end of the semester. Notebooks must be organized in numerical order before being turned in! If you do not follow these instructions, your notebook will not be accepted for credit. You need the following sections: 1. HANDOUT SECTION: When you get a handout, find out and write on it what number it is. Remember, work must be complete, even if you have to do it on your own time. This is Handout #1. This is the most important section of your notebook, worth the most points. At the end of the semester, you will know by the numbers how many things you should have in this section, and the numbers will also help you know if you missed a handout when absent. EXTRAS on back shelves. 2. WRITTEN WORK SECTION: Sometimes we will do written work from the text, overhead, or the board. All activities must be completed, even if you have to do it at home. SKIP or DRAW lines between activities, so I can see where stuff begins & ends and you get credit for all work. LABEL EVERYTHING with the NUMERO (#) I give each thing. Again, the numbers will help you know if you are missing anything. YOU’LL LOSE MANY POINTS FOR INCOMPLETE WORK! 3. CULTURE SECTION: You will get a handout containing cultural information on various countries, as well as handouts on holidays and history. This is your culture section, and this information will be on chapter tests and the final in December and May! 4. TU DICCIONARIO PERSONAL: Over the course of the semester, whenever you ask me or someone else how to say something, writie it down in this section. This will be a numbered list of 100 new words in English and Spanish. Words off our lists will not count. If it is not numbered, this section will not be accepted for credit. They should be words which are useful to you; waiting til the last minute and copying random words from the dictionary does not serve much purpose. ****Notebook work must be done when it is assigned. If you do not do it when assigned, you will not get credit for those assignments when I check los cuadernos.**** PARTICIPATION can help raise your grade. You must raise your hand or take a speaking part a certain number of times per week to get 100% in participation. You will lose points for non participation in class activities, for chicle (because it interferes with pronunciation), and, later in the semester, speaking English. Remember, everything counts, even games. In addition, at times you will be called on to answer questions even though you didn’t raise your hand; this, too, is part of your participation grade and will help you to think critically. NO INGLES AND YOUR GRADE: A major focus of this course will be on improving your ability to communicate in Spanish. To facilitate this, as the semester goes on, you will be required to use Spanish more and English less. DON’T PANIC; this will happen gradually, so you will have time to get used to it. At first, this will be tied into your participation grade, but later in the year, you will receive an actual, separate “No Inglés” grade which drops every time you speak English. I think you will be pleased with the results by the end of the year! START PRACTICING NOW! ORAL SPANISH CONVERSATIONS will be a part of your grade. You will be required to get with a partner, follow the instructions and speak Spanish only!! You will lose points for speaking English, not participating, or goofing off. Each conversation will be explained to you, along with the expectations you must meet for full credit. Do not wait for a personal invitation from me to begin speaking; you have to do the conversation to get the points, not just sit there. ATTENDANCE POLICY: When you are absent, go to the back wall to READ what you missed. You may make up work for credit only if your absence is EXCUSED THROUGH THE OFFICE WITHIN 24 HOURS, as per HHS policy. Do notebook work in your notebook when it is assigned. Homework due the day you were gone is due the day you return, even if you are not making up the test that day, unless you were gone three or more days. Since tests and quizzes are announced ahead of time, being absent one or two days does NOT mean you don’t have to take it with the rest of the class. Work not made up PROMPTLY becomes a ZERO; don’t forget to schedule time with me to make up tests & quizzes. Ask me before or after class, not during, please! You are responsible for getting and doing your own makeup work. Just because you were absent does NOT mean that you are not responsible for information learned or work done that day! HOMEWORK is due the day it’s due. Period. Please don’t ask for special treatment. Workbook homework is collected about once every week and a half or two weeks, on the test day. Please don’t save it all for the night before! See me BEFORE IT’S DUE with questions. CLASSWORK must be done when it’s assigned. ***If you want an A, exert your best effort! DON’T whine, complain, or make excuses, and DO STUDY 15 minutes a night, complete make up work promptly, and turn in work on time!!!***
