Social Entrepeneurship
This course is aimed at contributing to the mission of the University of Amsterdam
to engage “with social issues, in keeping with the spirit of the city with which it is
inextricably linked’’.
The course consists of three interrelated parts and will be assessed based on the
successful completion of 80 hours of community service and 3 different assignments. Part one consists of lectures on topics related to social entrepreneurship
in general, such as the potential role of community service in Amsterdam and
some exemplary social enterprises, which will be delivered by academics, (social)
entrepreneurs and others. The second part of the course consists of min. 80 hours
of community service. During the third part of the course small student teams will
write a business plan for the startup of a social enterprise.
Entrance
No prior knowledge of business or economics is required and honours students
from all faculties are welcome to enroll.
Coordination
The social entrepreneurship course is coordinated by the Amsterdam Business
School (UvA) in collaboration with the Amsterdam Center for Entrepreneurship
(UvA/VU/HvA), the Institute for Interdisciplinary Studies (UvA), the Amsterdam
Business Research Institute (VU), ENACTUS UvA and ENACTUS VU.
