CORNING^ WARE®
Freeze-Cook-Serve Ware
The most versatile Cook and Serve Ware
you can possibly own!
One dish does three jobs! Freeze in it, cook in it, serve in it . . .
and it almost washes itself. It can save you hours of dishpan
time every month. Best way to save work, time, mess, money!
Beautiful CORNING WARE dishes do the work of three utensils.
You can use the same one to put in the freezer, take instantly
to range, broiler, or oven, and put on your table. Only one to
wash . . . because it is made of amazing PYROCERAM® brand
space-age ceramic; heatproof, coldproof, nonporous.
FREEZE-COOK-SERVE
From freezer to range to table is the story of the CORNING
dishes.
To freeze food, prepare it in a CORNING W A R E dish. Cool the
dish quickly by placing it in ice or cold water. Freeze.
CORNING WARE dishes can be brought directly from the
freezer and put on the range or into the oven . . . no waiting
for the food to thaw.
CORNING WARE dishes are perfect for use on all types of
ranges —on the surface, in the oven or under the broiler.
For best cooking results, heat CORNING W A R E dishes slowly
and turn the heat down early. This will help to prevent sticking or scorching.
Food will keep warm for serving in the dish in which it was
cooked because CORNING WARE dishes have high heat retention.
Many dishes have cradles for convenient serving.

RANGE-TOP COOKING
FRYING CORNING W A R E ® skillets meet all your frying needs.
Low to medium heat is best for frying foods. Use medium heat
to quickly brown foods. Turn the heat down to continue frying.
CORNING WARE skillets can also be used as casseroles or to
warm up leftovers. CORNING WARE dishes chosen for frying and
sauteing can be placed under the broiler and in the oven.
OTHER RANGE-TOP COOKING CORNING WARE saucepans are
ideal for all types of cooking—boiling, stewing, simmering,
and poaching. Usually, low to medium heat is best for rangetop cooking. Use medium heat to bring liquids to a boil in a
hurry, then turn the heat down to continue cooking. Very low
heat is best for simmering. Foods cook just as quickly when
boiling gently as when boiling violently. Shortly before the
food actually starts to boil, turn the heat down.
OVEN
BAKING CORNING WARE dishes are very efficient for baking
because they need less heat. Set the temperature 25° F.
lower in the oven than you would for shiny metal pans, unless
the recipe has been written for CORNING WARE or P Y R E X ® brand
dishes. Food taken from the freezer in the CORNING WARE dish
may go directly into the oven.
ROASTING CORNING WARE roasters and platters are ideal for
large roasts and poultry. Food can be roasted in the oven in
CORNING WARE dishes and then taken directly to the table for
serving. All CORNING WARE dishes are suitable for roasting.
There is a dish that will best suit your needs and family. The
same CORNING WARE dish used to roast fowl or meat may be
placed on top of the range for making gravy or sauces.
BROILER
BROILING Broil and then serve foods sizzling hot in the
same CORNING W A R E ® dish. All CORNING WARE dishes may be
used under the broiler. The Broil and Serve Platter is ideal for
a large steak, or larger quantities of fish or chops. Small
CORNING WARE skillets and saucepans are ideal for broiling
individual servings, or meals prepared just for two.
BROWNING The dish used for boiling, stewing, or baking
can be placed directly under the broiler to brown toppings
such as meringue, cheese, or buttered crumbs.
HANDLE
The detachable lock-on handle fits all CORNING WARE saucepans, skillets, and saucemakers. It is particularly convenient
for use on range-top and for serving. The handle locks on
securely with just a twist. A twist in the opposite direction will
remove it. The handle may be used to put the dish into the
oven or to take it out. Do not leave the handle on a CORNING
WARE dish in the oven, under the broiler, on an outdoor grill,
or in a dishwasher. To clean, the handle need only be wiped
with a damp sudsy cloth.
STRENGTH
CORNING WARE dishes will not break from temperature extremes used in cooking and freezing. While they are mechanically strong, avoid hitting them against the sink or dropping
them on a hard surface which may cause breakage.
CARE AND USE
CLEANING Regular sudsing is all that is usually needed to
make a CORNING W A R E ® dish look like new. In the event of
scorching, spots will rub off with a little cleansing powder on
a damp cloth, sponge, or with a plastic scouring pad. To prevent scorching use less heat. Water, or in the case of meat,
a little oil, lessens any possibility of sticking.
STAINING
Spot staining may be removed by soaking
dishes in household bleach following the manufacturer's directions.
CORNING WARE
HARD WATER MARKS In order to eliminate marks caused
by hard water, the dish should be filled nearly full with a vinegar solution (2 tablespoons of vinegar to 1 qt. of water). Boil
for a few minutes. Wash the dish in warm sudsy water.
GRAY MARKS Some forks, knives, spoons, or other stirring
utensils made of soft metal may leave grayish marks. They
may be removed with cleansing powder on a damp cloth or
sponge. Avoid metal scouring pads . . . they, too, leave gray
marks which must then be removed.
COVERS The clear, heat-resistant covers on the CORNING
WARE dishes go from freezer to range without fear of heat
breakage. However, the cover, when hot, should not be placed
on a cold or wet surface. These covers fit loosely; therefore,
there is no excessive build-up of steam.
