Dow in the Middle East
Committed to the Region
Dow is committed to serving customer needs and investing in strategic growth in the Middle East by leveraging its
industry leadership and technical innovation and expertise. The Company has a long-standing relationship with the
Middle East, beginning with the establishment of manufacturing facilities and representative offices in the United Arab
Emirates (UAE) more than 35 years ago.
Kuwait
Dow is utilizing its strong asset base and technology
position to transform Kuwait’s petrochemical landscape.
Through our four joint ventures and local office, we are
the largest private employer in Kuwait’s petrochemical
industry. Dow also leads local efforts to advance human
progress, including youth, educational, social awareness
and environmental preservation initiatives. Launched in
2011, the Dow Marine Conservation Program (DMCP)
has helped clear more than 19 tons of waste from
Kuwait’s beaches.
UAE
Egypt
For nearly 40 years, Dow Egypt has
delivered solutions that improve lives
and address the region’s most critical
challenges. Our manufacturing facility
and Cairo office offer leading chemistries
and polyurethane systems used in energy,
infrastructure and transportation, agriculture,
and water treatment, among a wide range of other
industrial markets. Dow is also active in the community,
supporting a variety of organizations dedicated
to providing housing, clean water and improved
educational opportunities.
The United Arab Emirates
(UAE) serves as the regional
headquarters for the Middle
East, Turkey and Africa and
is the commercial hub for our
growth strategy across the Middle
East and North Africa. With two industry
leading joint ventures and one manufacturing
site, Dow’s solutions in construction, coatings,
petrochemicals, energy and water have
been used in many of the region’s iconic
developments, including Dubai landmarks Burj
Khalifa and Ski Dubai.
Dow in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
Dow has been present in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for over 35 years. Our presence
in the Kingdom is one characterized by landmark joint venture (JV) partnerships and a
commitment to positively impact the local economic landscape, while transforming the
country into a key player in the global petrochemicals industry.
Dow entered the Saudi market in
1976 by partnering with E.A. Juffali &
Brothers. Dow and Juffali are partners
in the Arabian Chemical Company Ltd.
(ACCL), producing latex in Dammam
and STYROFOAM™* in Jeddah and in
Dubai, United Arab Emirates
1976
Dow has
established the Middle
East and Africa Research
& Development Center in
Thuwal, Saudi Arabia at the King
Abdullah University of Science and
Technology (KAUST). There, Dow
houses an industrial water pilot plant
facility to test real-world scenarios at the
scale of modern industry- geared toward
advancing water filtration and purification
technology and partners with KAUST to
develop innovative, science-based
solutions in water, energy
and infrastructure.
Ongoing Investments
Dow has a JV stake
in the Saudi Acrylic Monomer
Company (SAMCo) with Tasnee
Sahara Olefins Company. The JV, located
in Jubail, is the first acrylic monomer production
facility in the region and produces the building blocks
of advanced coatings technology. While generating
hundreds of local jobs, the asset manufactures downstream
products for local and regional markets.
Dow and Saudi Aramco entered into a Joint Venture to establish
the Sadara Chemical Company. Upon completion, the proposed
facility, located in Jubail Industrial City, would be the largest
production complex built in a single phase and one of the
largest integrated chemicals facilities in the world, generating
thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities
through the complex and related investments in
downstream value parks. As a standalone enterprise,
Sadara will represent the largest foreign direct
investment in the Saudi petrochemical
industry.
The Dow office in
Dammam includes HR,
finance, logistics,
and support.
The Dow office in
Riyadh has expanded to
include government affairs and
public affairs personnel.
Dow has begun plans to expand its footprint in Saudi Arabia to include a water manufacturing facility for DOW FILMTEC™ reverse
osmosis (RO) membrane elements. This facility is the first of its kind built outside the United States and will allow us to locally
manufacture high-technology products that can significantly improve energy efficiency in the production of drinking and industrial
water in the Kingdom.
