Performance Pedagogy Listening is the most important factor to perform in tune. Good breath support will lead to good tone quality and intonation. When performing a musical passage in tune, the performer should perform with good posture and tone quality, and with proper air support. A performance that is considered musical and expressive is achieved by being fully prepared on your music, following your director, and performing with expression, proper dynamics, and articulation/diction. Performances are judged not only on musical preparation and performance, but the impression you make on and off the stage by how you look and act. Dynamic contrast, good tone quality, good intonation, technical and rhythmic fluency and proper phrasing will lead to a musical performance. Using a pencil to mark your music makes you a smart musician because you are working to not repeat the same mistake again. When sight reading, your goal should be to perform as much of the music correctly the first time.
