Committie’s new show to raise funds for NPOs
Gabriël Oberholzer hosts free recital
Gabriël Oberholzer, a concert pianist and organist based in Somerset West, will render a free organ
recital on Saturday 1 November at
18:00 at the Helderberg College
Church, Somerset West.
Oberholzer has recently been
awarded a SAKOV bursary for organ. His love and passion for music breathes new life into the traditional church organ.
The programme includes items
such as Amazing Grace; Silent
Night; Cathedral Prelude and
Fugue; as well as original compositions by Oberholzer himself.
Oberholzer has travelled to the
United States where he worked as
pianist and music director at a
Summer Festival for the Performing Arts.
He has performed extensively
throughout South Africa, both as
a piano and organ soloist and accompanying other musicians.
He has featured on TV shows
like Pasella, and radio stations including Classic FM and Voice of
Soweto.
He is also a keen composer and
has written music scores for several productions.
One of the films, Escudo, received a Golden Horn at the first
SAFTA awards. His compositions
are

Oberholzer’s piano CD will be
for sale after the concert and there
will be an opportunity for donations.

Masikhule, ECHO and the Somerset West Night shelter have
been fortunate enough to secure
one night of Alan Committie’s
new show, The Sound of Laughter.
THE NEIL DIAMOND TRIBUTE: The Hottentots Holland Drama Society will host the Neil Diamond Tribute at The Playhouse Theatre in Lourensford Road, Somerset West on 6 and 7 November. The musical delight starts at 20:00. Diamond is one of the most enduring and successful singer­
songwriters of all time, having sold over 25 million records worldwide. The tribute celebrates evergreen hits such as Sweet Caroline, Beautiful Noise, I am I said, Forever in Blue Jeans, Desiree, Longfellow Serenade, to mention but a few, and will uncannily be brought to life by Johan
Liebenberg backed by his profession­

audiences, Alan Committie (of Defending the Caveman fame) is coming to share his thoughts on turning 40, set to the theme tune of the
world’s most beloved show, The
Sound of Music.
The show will be staged at Theatre on the Bay on Monday 8 December, starting at 20:00. Tickets are
just R150 each and include a complimentary glass of wine.
