Rapunzel - Hutton Elementary PTG

Missoula Children’s Theatre and
Hutton Elementary present
Rapunzel
Would it surprise you to know that the story of Rapunzel happened
in France? Well it didn’t really, but our story takes you on a
frivolous frolic through the French countryside. The Ogres garden
in the Mushroom patch while the Corn and Potato spies report back
to Madame Gothel. Frenchy and his intense friends, the Wood
Elves, do their best to help Rapunzel escape the grasp of Madame
Gothel. The lost Prince, Rapunzel’s Parents, and her friends the
Unicorns try to help. Just when you think it’s safe to cross the
bridge a Troll and Three Billy Goats Gruff get in the way. It doesn’t
help that the Three Bears (or is it four) confuse Rapunzel with
Goldilocks and chase her through the forest. Add to that the
Gremlins trying to play tricks on everyone and you have chaos! Well, it’s not that bad because the
Pixies foil the Gremlin’s plans most of the time. In short, Rapunzel and all the rest of the characters
tell a silly tale of personal triumph and friendship.
Dear Parents and Students,
Auditions for the Missoula Children’s theatre production of Rapunzel will be on Monday, March 16th
from 3:15-5:15pm in the Camp Hutton gym. There are roles for students in 1st through 6th grade.
Students wishing to audition must arrive by 3:15pm with a signed permission slip and stay for the
entire two-hour group audition. The first rehearsal will begin approximately 30 minutes after the
auditions are completed. Approximately 50 students will be cast to appear in the show with the MCT
Tour Actor/ Directors. All students who audition will get to be a part of the show, whether it is
as a cast member, a director, or a member of the show choir.
This is a group audition- no advance preparation is necessary, but a smile never hurts. Students
should just be ready to come and have a good time!
Rehearsals will be conducted each day from 3:05 to 7:30 pm in the gym. Although not all cast
members will be needed at every session, those auditioning must have a clear schedule for the entire
week and if selected, be able to attend all rehearsals required for their role. A detailed rehearsal
schedule will be distributed at the conclusion of the auditions. Cast members scheduled for the full
4½ hours of rehearsal are asked to bring a sack dinner to eat between rehearsals (5:15- 5:30 pm).
The performances will be held on Saturday, March 21st at 3:00pm and 5:30pm. The students in the
cast will be called for dress rehearsal before the performances that day. All cast members must be
available for dress rehearsal and both scheduled performances. Admission to the performances
is free.
Missoula Children’s Theatre is a non-profit organization based in Missoula, Montana. This coming
year more than 65,000 cast members across the globe will take to the stage to the delight and
applause of their families, friends, community, neighbors and teachers!
When and where are the auditions?
th
Auditions are Monday, March 16 from 3:15- 5:15 in the Gym. No advance preparation is required. Parents please
plan to meet your child at the end of auditions. Plan to arrive by 5:00pm in order to hear the cast list announced in the
Gym. To be able to audition, all children must have a permission slip.
Is my child guaranteed a role?
Approximately 50 children will be cast in the show. All children who audition will get to participate in the production in
some way, whether it is in the cast, as a student director, or in the Show Choir. There is plenty to do to make a production
like this happen. Everyone who participates is a STAR!
What is the time commitment?
Everyone participating in the production is required to attend all rehearsals for their chosen role (no exceptions). The
rehearsal schedule will be handed out following the audition process. The rehearsals will run from 3:05- 5:15pm and
5:30- 7:30pm with a 15 minute break for dinner (from 5:15 to 5:30pm). All participants will also be required to attend the
dress rehearsal (Saturday morning) and both performances (Saturday 3:00pm and 5:30pm).
My child has other commitments during the week, is that okay?
