Reminders
 NewsELA assignment due February 15/16.
o 4 articles – Lexile 1050 – 75% or higher
 Vocabulary sentences will be due February 3/6.
 Vocabulary test on February 3/6.
Vocabulary – Unit 6
 We went over the next ten words from Unit 6: officious, ominous, pinnacle, premeditated,
rampant, solace, stately, supple, suppress, venal.
 Students wrote a sentence for each word.
 Sentences due, and TEST on UNITS 1-6: Friday, February 3 (A Day)/Monday, February 6 (B Day).
Argumentation
 Students scored their annotation/outlines for the article about the National Anthem.
 We talked about taking the outline to the next step: the essay.
 Attached below is an outline for ONE POSSIBLE essay structure.
 Take the information you have on your outline and write an essay using this structure.
 You will have 30 minutes today to work on this.
 Due at the beginning of class next time.
Julius Caesar
 We began reading Act II of Julius Caesar.
 Students got into groups of 4-6.
 Each student had at least one part, and students were to begin reading Act II.
 At the bottom of each two pages (before turning the page), the group is to write a one-sentence
summary of what they read.
 At the end of each scene, students are to complete the semantic map for the scene. (image,
quotation, one-sentence summary)
 Students will have time to finish this act next time.

o Transition – tie intro paragraph to this one

o Evidence (minimum of two pieces) to support that argument
