Leaners from KwaZulu-Natal schools will be taking part at the SA Schools Championships in Pretoria
from 10th - 14th December 2012.
Team KZN is leaving for Pretoria on Thursday night for a three day holding camp, ahead of the games
at the University of Pretoria on Monday.
The tournament, which is also referred to as the Top Schools Championships, is the culmination of the
newly launched schools leagues, which is the pillar of the new school sport program.
The aim of the schools leagues programme is to encourage regular participation in sport by leaners
throughout the country.
Team KZN comprises of almost 600 athletes. These include athletes form the 20 champion schools as
well as those selected from various other schools that competed in the inaugural Provincial Top
Schools Festival in October this year.
The province will be competing for honours in all selected nine codes, which are: athletics, basketball,
chess, cricket, football (including for the physically challenged), gymnastics, netball, rugby and
volleyball.
A send-off occasion which will be hosted by the Acting Head of Department [Sports and Recreation], is
to be held as follows:
