Chad Wright closed his junior season with a runner-up finish in the discus at the NCAA
Outdoor Championships... recorded a personal-best throw of 209-1 (63.74) at the
Championships, securing All-America honors... his throw put him at second all-time at
Nebraska and made him the Big Ten’s all-time leader in the discus... also finished fifth in
the shot put at the NCAA finals, posting a throw of 62-2 1/4 (18.95) to earn his second
outdoor All-America honors of the season... earned the first conference title of his career
at the 2013 Big Ten Outdoor Championships, finishing first in the shot put with a personal
best throw of 63-7 1/2 (19.39), on his final attempt of the competition... earned first-team
All-Big Ten accolades...also finished second in the discus at the conference meet... made
his presence known in his first outdoor meet of the season, the Arizona State Invitational,
with a winning throw of 189-3 (57.68) in the men’s discus.... earned the discus title at the
Kansas Relays, in addition to capturing the shot put crown... finished second in the discus
at the Triton Invitational on April 25, posting a throw of 207-11 (63.37)... earned two Big
Ten outdoor track and field weekly awards in 2013... finished second in the shot put at
the 2013 Big Ten Indoor Championships, posting a personal-best throw of 61-10 1/2
(18.86)... earned second-team All-Big Ten honors for his finish at the conference meet...

2012 (Sophomore)
Wright forever etched his name into the Husker record books during the 2012
season, completing his sophomore season in stunning fashion with his first NCAA
Championship... made Husker history with a winning throw of 206-0 (62.78) on his
fifth attempt of competition in Des Moines, Iowa... his mark was the longest throw in
Division I in 2012, earning him the national title and was the longest winning distance
at the NCAA Championships since 2007... became Nebraska’s 18th men’s outdoor
national champion... notched the second All-America honors of his career... set an
outdoor personal-best of 61-1 1/2 (18.63) in the shot put at the 2012 Big Ten Outdoor
Championships, finishing fifth overall... set an indoor personal-best of 59-11 1/4 (18.26)
in the shot put at the adidas Classic on Jan. 21... took second in the discus at the 2012
Big Ten Outdoor Championships with a throw of 195-1 (59.46)... named the Big Ten Male
Field Athlete of the Week twice in 2012... recorded a throw of 198-5 (60.47) in the discus
at the Sun Angel Classic in Tempe, Ariz., which ranked first in the conference and second
in the nation at the time... earned second-team All-Big Ten honors at the 2012 Big Ten
Outdoor Championships.

Wright earned All-America honors in his first national meet at the 2011 NCAA Outdoor
Championships, finishing sixth as the top freshman in the NCAA discus competition...
competed in eight meets during the indoor track and field season... recorded a personalbest 59-2 1/4 (18.04) in the shot put at the Texas A&M Challenge... capped his outdoor
season with All-America accolades in discus with a throw of 184-7 (56.26) and a sixth-
place finish... placed seventh in the shot put (52-7, 16.02) and sixth in discus (185-9,
56.61) at the 2011 Big 12 Outdoor Championships... also recorded a season best of 58-3
3/4 (17.77) in the shot put at the Nebraska Open... notched a season-best 189-11 (57.88)
at the Tom Jones Memorial in the discus.
Before Nebraska (Calabar HS)
Wright is the most recent addition to the Husker program from Calabar High School in
Kingston, Jamaica, following former Husker and 2009 indoor long jump champion Nicholas
Gordon... one of the top junior throwers in Jamaica, as he holds national junior records
in the shot put and discus... placed fifth at the 2010 IAAF World Junior Championships
in the discus and finished 14th in the shot put... swept the shot and discus at the 2010
Jamaican Junior Championships with throws of 200-4 (61.06) and 61-11 (18.87) using
junior implements... mark in the shot put set the Jamaican junior record... competed at
the senior championships and held his own with a fourth-place finish in the shot (52-5,
15.97) and broke the national junior record in the discus with a second-place toss of 179-4
(54.66)... added discus titles at the 2010 Carifta Games and Penn Relays... threw 207-0
(63.09) with a 1.75 kg discus at the Carifta Games and then tossed 191-11 (58.49) two
weeks later in Philadelphia, Pa., with a 1.6 kg implement... chose Nebraska over LSU.
