Specialized Cell Analogy Project
I.
II.
III.
Choose a specific TYPE of eukaryotic cell.
a. Examples include plant leaf cell, animal muscle cell, animal brain cell, or animal
skin cell. (You must choose a somatic cell.)
b. Present your choice to Ms. Lawing.
c. Research the structure (shape), function and organelles that are unique to this type
of eukaryotic cell. (You may need to look at the life cycle of the cell.) You most
likely will not find a source that tells you exactly what organelles are present and
in what quantity. You will need to do the research and extrapolate the type and
number of each organelle.
Make a suitable analogy to your cell.
a. You can make your analogy to any structure or system in the world except a
factory or school.
i. Use the format for an analogy give to you in class.
b. Think about the follow:
i. Is the analogy I am using appropriate to the cells function?
ii. Is the analogy I am using appropriate to the structure?
Final Product:
a. You must have a typed version of your cell analogy.
b. Respond to this statement: How are structures and functions interdependent?
i. Write a thesis statement.
ii. Use specific examples from your analogy (both the cell and what you are
comparing it to) to support your thesis.
