Get to Know Dr. Nadia Tereshchenko 1. Do you have a professional moment of which you are most proud? I was a paramedic for 12 years before I went to medical school. I think back to those days when I learned the impact the smallest actions can have for someone – that still rings true in the ER today. I remember once finding a woman along the side of the road covered in blood and hysterical. We discovered the blood wasn’t hers, but her dog’s. The dog had been hit and she’d been carrying it around trying to find help. Being able to calm her down, to sympathize with her, to reach out to her as a fellow person not just a patient was extremely rewarding. 2. What’s something people might not know about you? I absolutely LOVE my dogs. They are my children. I have three: two Border Collies, Molly and Archie; and Meeko, my Australian Shepherd. 3. What’s one thing you’d change about yourself? Well, I’d like to be a little taller! Moving to the higher altitude also let me know I need to be more aerobically fit. 4. When did you know you wanted to be a doctor? My mom tells me I talked about being a doctor when I was just a toddler. Apparently, when I was about 2, I liked to examine my great grandmother. I distinctly remember thinking about it in elementary school, though. 5. Do you have any hobbies? I enjoy almost any outdoor activity. My husband Chris and I like to snowboard, snowshoe, hike, you name it! I also can’t wait to try my hand at gardening in western Colorado. 6. What was your first job? My mom owned a catering business. I helped out a lot as a teenager. Eventually, she turned over the service operations to me. I still really enjoy cooking. You won’t find me happier than when I’m in my kitchen. 7. What’s the worst food you’ve eaten? Since my mom was in the food business, I became a very adventurous eater. I do remember a trip to France that inspired her to come home and try to cook a beef tongue. It looked awful. It tasted awful. Strange, because I’ve heard it can be very good! I guess she just didn’t know how to cook it. Dr. Nadia Tereshchenko is the newest addition to The Memorial Hospital’s ER team. Her credentials and experience make her a seasoned and wellrespected doctor, while her life experiences and character make her a good neighbor, friend and community member. 8. Why did you choose TMH? My husband and I dreamed of moving to Colorado. We’re both from California and were growing tired of the congestion, the traffic, the always-hot weather. We were on a road trip through Montana when a recruiter called. I literally was balancing on one leg on a rock in the middle of a campsite trying to get optimal cell reception. We’d been to western Colorado before and loved it – in my mind, I basically accepted the job on the rock that day. A trip to Craig sealed the deal. It was a perfect fit. 9. Do you have a message for your future patients? I’m just a normal person. I’m here to work hard and hope to make many friends. My natural doctoring style has a patient-centered, small-town flavor. I can’t wait to take care of people and share my experiences and expertise with the Craig community. I never want to be an “untouchable” doctor.
