DC Ceram - the new product line DC Ceram is the latest addition to the already established ceramay product lines Authentic and Pulse. Some of the same basic components that show the fluorescence and opalescence of natural teeth are being used once again. Spherical opalescent demixing regions (30 -300µm) refract and scatter the incoming light. conceptArt – the stain paste for zirconium oxide and lithium disilicate Used for the stain technique or for individual characterization as “internal stains”. These stains require little effort to achieve excellent results for pressed, milled or hand layered ceramic. The consistency is matched to the respective area of application which means thus staining of shades with lower viscosity, results in a more dimensional and homogeneous appearance after firing. The rich consistency of the modifier makes it easier for the technician to create a more targeted characterization of the ceramic. conceptArt – the fluorescent stain paste Compared to classic stains, fluorescent stains have a huge advantage. The fluorescent components operate to amplify light. This means the conceptArt stains will retain their light optical appearance (similar to that of a natural tooth) even in relatively dark areas of the mouth cavity. Another advantage to the conceptArt fluorescent stains is that graying does not occur. The Shades Our shades are named after the Vita Shade system A,B,C and D. Mainly added in the cervical area of the tooth up to the tooth equator they provide the ceramic restoration with a chromatic basic shade. The intensity is controlled by the quantity applied and the shade is defined by the numbers 1 - 4. In contrast to the modifier or value stains the technician stays within the same color group if applied too strongly or too weak, without changing the basic shade of the ceramic restoration. The consistency of the conceptArt shades is set up so dimensional staining will be no problem and the sometimes “spotty” looking stain after firing is now a thing of the past. The Value The value refers to the brightness of the natural tooth. Bleach shades are the brightest, grey or transparent teeth are the lowest value. But also specific areas of natural teeth appear bright and therefore they are made out of fluorescent materials. In the fluorescent stains the brightness is controlled by the quantity of fluorescent particles in the porcelain stain and the optical color control. Gray or dark blue applied in the incisal area suggests a light transmission, less bright (similar to glass). A whiter area, less blue, creates the impression of a shiny bright body (similar to snow in sunlight). In this case the brightness is very high. conceptArt offers 7 value based stains that help with simple changes and adjustments to the overall value of your restoration. The Modifier Changes to the color of a tooth area are made with the modifier stains. They are pure colors and not bound to a color group. With their more stable consistency they are recommended for enamel craze lines or occlusal abrasive areas. Shade Stains Shade A For the individual characterization of the shade group A. The color intensity depends on the used amount of the shade. For use in the cervical and occlusal area. Shade B For the individual characterization of the shade group B. The color intensity depends on the used amount of the shade. For use in the cervical and occlusal area. Shade C For the individual characterization of the shade group C. The color intensity depends on the used amount of the shade. For use in the cervical and occlusal area. Shade D For the individual characterization of the shade group D. The color intensity depends on the used amount of the shade. For use in the cervical and occlusal area. Value Stains White Raises the brightness extremely, brightening of the cusp tips, internal effects Vanilla Raises the brightness, internal application in the center of the porcelain, to brighten up the tooth body and cusp tips Smoke Lowers the value extremely, creates optical depth (less than grey- blue) and the illusion of transparence Violet Reduces the value, very soft effects of translucence, for the mesial and distal portion of the molar and bicuspid (premolar) Grey - Blue Lowers the brightness very much, creates a strong optical depth (stronger than smoke), areas of use: incisal, approximal, mesial and distal Green Lowers the value, in the body area of bleach colors Black Lowers the value extremely, to mix in with other stains, characterization in the central occlusal fossa Modifier Stains Yellow For individual characterization in the cervical, occlusal and in the body area of the restoration. Orange As effect color for modification - in the incisal area - for occlusal parts of premolar and molar Khaki For characterization of: - cervical areas (more translucency than shades) - occlusal parts of premolar and molar Dark brown For characterization of: - central fossa - enamel craze lines (in combination with white) - interproximal and cervical areas ceramay ® dentalceramics Posterior Onlays pressed and stained Years ago it was still unthinkable to manufacture crowns and bridges out of a single porcelain ingot without any further porcelain application and to stain it so that it would meet the high esthetic demand of dentists as well as patients. Modern stains with their optical properties can get really close to the interplay of the light in the natural dentition. Fluorescent shades and stains are the carrier of success in the stain technique because they copy nearly perfectly even in darker regions of the mouth the chromatic and brilliant characteristics of the fluorescent dentition. Monika Hampp, Germany Anterior pressed and stained Every year, millions of art lovers from all over the world flock to mu-seums to admire the beauty of paintings. Chinese porcelain, painted about 2000 years ago, up to the pieces of the manufacture today in Meissen or Nymphenburg, stand for their high art to give life to the “white gold”. Dental Technology, should in my opinion use this artform of staining as an inspiration for high quality craftsmanship and no longer compromise in the manufacturing of dental restorations.
