DAWSON
HISTORY:
• One of Australia’s longest
established coal mines;
• Coal mining commenced in the early
1960s at what was known at Moura
Mines;
• July 2007 first feed started to new
Coal Handling Preparation Plant.
Dawson is a large open cut metallurgical
and export thermal mine.
LOCATION:
COAL PRODUCTION & RESOURCES:
• Southern end of the Bowen Basin
in Central Queensland near the
town of Moura;
• Approximately one hour drive
from Biloela and two hours from
Rockhampton and Gladstone.
• Open cut operation, using dragline
and truck and shovel;
• Producing more than 9 million
tonnes per annum (Mtpa) of coking,
soft coking and thermal coal;
• At December 2012, estimates for
ROM reserves are approximately
408 Mt of coking and thermal coal
quality with an additional 311 Mt of
mineable in-situ resources outside
the current mine layout.
