Forgive us for leaving undone those things which we ought to have done; the unspoken word of grace, the helping hand not offered, deeds of love not carried out. Breathe your loving and forgiving Spirit into each and into all, that we might ever become your people. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen. *KYRIE ELEISON NO. 574 (blue hymnal) arr. David N. We are called to be the Church: to celebrate God’s presence, to live with respect in Creation, to love and serve others, to seek justice and resist evil, to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen, our judge and our hope. In life, in death, in life beyond death, God is with us. We are not alone. Thanks be to God. PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE ... In Remembrance of Richard Frost Wood.” BENJAMIN BRITTEN’S ALPINE SUITE was composed in February 1955 during a skiing holiday in Zermatt. It is dedicated to the artist and recorder player Mary Potter, a friend from the Aldeburgh Music Club, who had injured her ankle on the first day of the trip (the suite was composed to give her something to enjoy playing during her recuperation). Though Britten, aside from composing, was also known as a conductor, pianist, and violist, he played the recorder, having been persuaded to learn to play it by his friend and collaborator Imogen Holst, daughter of composer Gustav Holst. In addition to Alpine Suite and Scherzo (for four recorders, composed in 1954), he also included recorders in two of his operas: Noye’s Fludde (1957) and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (1960). Britten served as President of the Society of Recorder Players from 1958 to 1976. DONATIONS NEEDED FOR KIDS’ CLUB: We need your help with donations of dry rice and beans.
