1876,the7thCavalryRegimentoftheUnitedStatesArmyandLt.Col.GeorgeCusterledan
attackonanencampmentofSioux,CheyenneandArapahoTribesneartheLittleBighorn
RiverinsouthcentralMontana.Custerandhismenweregrosslyoutnumberedandthe
battlewouldbeanoverwhelmingvictoryforthetribesforthebattlefamouslyknownas
“Custer’sLastStand”.ThebattlewasoneofthelasteffortsoftheIndianstoprotecttheir
sacredlandagainstinvadingsettlers.Col.GeorgeCusterandallhiscompany’smendiedin
battleatthehandsofagroupledbySittingBull, a HunkpapaLakotaSiouxchief.The
woundedsoldierswalkedfortwodaysbeforetheyreachedtheFarWeststeamboat,
captainedbyGrantMarsh,andweretakentoFortAbrahamLincolninBismarck,ND.
