Parshat: Tazria - Metzora - Lubavitch on the Palisades

B”H
Parshat: Tazria - Metzora
Light candles at 7:18 p.m.
Shabbat ends at 8:20 p.m.
Dear Parents,
With Pesach behind us, the children have already crossed the Red Sea, are now walking
through the desert and counting the Omer toward the 49th day when they anticipate becoming
the chosen Jewish nation and receiving the most precious gift – our Torah. After Bnei Yisroel
left Egypt, they embarked on a period of self-refinement and character improvement in order
to merit and be worthy of receiving the Torah on Shavuot.
While counting the 49 days of the Omer, we too try to perfect our character and practice
strengthening our middot. To assist in this goal, it is customary to study Pirkei Avot (the
chapters of Avot) on every Shabbos between the holidays of Passover and Shavuot, the seven
weeks of the Omer counting. The study of Pirkei Avot is intended to keep us spiritually
strong and healthy.
In the next few weeks the children will experience some important values taught in Pirkei
Avot. The yeladim will practice greeting everyone with a smile and acting quickly to do
mitzvot, as well as understand that Torah to a Jew is like water to a fish and learn that the
world continues to exist based on the 3 pillars of our faith: Tzedakah (Charity), Tefillah
(Prayer) and Torah. It is our hope that we will all use this period of self-reflection to
strengthen both our interpersonal relationships and spiritual selves so we can be role models
to or children on how to create stronger bonds both with our fellow person and the Ribono
Shel Olam.
Wishing you an uplifting Shabbos,
Orite and Sonya

NACHAS CORNER!
Dear Morahs,
Thank you so much for providing our children such wonderfully educational, as well
as entertaining, learning experiences for Purim and Pesach (as well as throughout this entire
school year). I wanted to share with you some pictures we took of the children that capture how
much pride they have in their school projects. The joy on their faces that you see in these pictures
are thanks to your much admired and appreciated dedication. Thank you Morahs Tamar,
Vered, Elana, Mushky and Yael!
Sincerely,
David & Galit Rich
Dear Morahs,
Thanks again for all your help!
Shalom and I and the 3 grandparents and aunts, uncles and friends of the family were absolutely blown away by all the projects Emily brought home for Pesach - especially the extraordinary Haggadah which we looked at every night (not only for the Seders!) And we were all
amazed by the many details she recited about the Pesach story (and of course the
songs and the ma nishtana)!! :) You and everyone at Chabad are awesome!! THANK
YOU for the wonderful education she is receiving!

Torah Town
Dear Parents,
This week in Torah Town we talked about the weekly
parsha and about a saying in Pirkei Avot.
PARSHA
In this week‘s parshiot, Tazria and Metzorah, we
learn about how carefully we have to use our words.
The children learned that the teeth and lips should be
gates for their mouths to make sure that only nice
words come out. This week we learned what happened in the times of the Bet Hamikdash when people spoke Lashon Hara, negative speech. When people spoke negatively about their friends, Hashem became very sad and sent them a reminder that that
such actions were not okay. If a person spoke
Lashon Hara they got spots called tzaraat. That person would have to show his/her spots to the kohen. If
the kohen said that it was tzazrat, he or she would
have to go away for a short period of time. After
about 7 days, the tzaraat would go away showing
that he did teshuva and he or she said ‘sorry’. The
kohen would again investigate the spots and make
sure the tzaraat went away. The person would now
be able to rejoin his or her friends, but after this experience the person would be much more careful
with the words he or she chooses.
PIRKEI AVOT
Our next holiday will be Shavuos, the holiday when we
celebrate receiving the Torah. The weeks in between
Pesach and Shavuos are dedicated to self improvement
in preparation to receive the Torah as our ancestors did
so many years ago. The best way to prepare for Matan
Torah is by learning Pirkei Avos which tells us how to do
mitzvos better.
This week, we focused on the following mishnah: “Be as
bold as a Leopard, as an Eagle be light, run like the
Deer, be like the Lion full of might to do the Mitzvos of
Hashem!”
We discussed that you can learn a lesson about doing
mitzvos from anything in the world. This mishnah illustrates that you can even learn from a deer, an eagle, a
leopard and a lion.
From a deer and an eagle we learn that you should run
to do mitzvot fast and swiftly instead of saying, “I’ll do it
later.” We should not put off the opportunity to do mitzvos.
From a leopard’s bold patterns we
learn that we should be bold and
proud to be Jews. From a lion’s
strength we learn that we should use
our own strong muscles to do mitzvos.
Shabbat Shalom ~ Morah Mira
