Shirley Avenue (near Fowler and Alluvial). Clovis detectives tracked down one of the robbers in Grover Beach (Central California Coast) on October 28th. They arrested the second suspect in Clovis on October 29th. As you may recall , the victims told officers that someone knocked on their front door asking for someone who didn't live there. One man with a gun gained entry into the house, while another got inside through a different entrance. Two of the three residents were tied up. Both were able to free themselves. No one was hurt. During the robbery, the two suspects took valuable property from the house. Some of this property was recovered from the suspect's apartment in Grover Beach. Clovis Police Arrest Mother and Grandparents for Child Abuse On October 10th, Fresno Police contacted the Clovis Police Department regarding allegations they received about chi ld abuse that took place in Clovis. Clovis Police detectives immediately began an investigation. A woman, her eight children and their grandparents lived on West Richert between May and October. The children told officers that they had been restrained and locked in their rooms for hours daily. The children , ages 3-months to 10-years-old, were taken into protective custody and turned over to Child Protective Services. The disturbing investigation continued when officers found evidence in the rooms of nailed shut wi ndows and an area used to restrained the youngsters . Clovis Police arrested the 29-year-old mother, 45-year-old grandmother, and 40-year-old grandfather on October 17th. All three adults were arrested on 3 counts of inhumane corporal punishment, 8 counts of inflicting injury upon a ch ild with mental anguish and suffering, and 4 counts of false imprisonment. Shooting, Car in Apartment, Vehicle Wrecks, Suspects Arrested Clovis Police Officers arrested two Fresno men in an attempted murder case that took place in the early morning hours of September 27th. Clovis detectives picked up 25-year-old Keshawn Thomas in Little Rock, Arkansas, in mid-October for attempted homicide after he fled the Fresno area. Clovis Police also arrested 27-year-old Dupree Evans in Madera for attempted robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. When Clovis officers responded to the area of Minnewawa and 9th for a call of a vehicle versus a building last month, they found a gaping hole in in an apartment caused by the victim's vehicle along with several damaged cars. The driver, who was staying with a friend , earlier brought a girl he'd been texting in Fresno to a residence south of Bullard Avenue. The man went into another room . When he came back, both the girl and his money were gone. The victim then drove south to Shaw and Minnewawa. He got into an altercation with two men in a car. One of them men pulled a gun and shot several times. The victim sustained a single gunshot wound and survived. Young Woman Lying in the Roadway Suffers Serious Injuries On October 17th, Clovis Police responded to a call for a person lying in the road on Shaw Ave. west of Fowler Ave. at 6 o'clock in the morning. When officers arrived , they found an 18-year-o ld woman in the roadway. A vehicle traveling west bound on Shaw Avenue did not see the woman and hit her. The driver was very cooperative with officers. Paramedics transported the woman to Community Regional Medical Center. The woman, who some witnesses say was on her hands in the roadway, was deemed at fault for the accident. She is still in the hospital and has a long recovery in front of her due to numerous inj uries. Clovis Police Officers Honor Two Fallen Sacramento Area Officers Clovis Police officers wore black mourning bands across their uniform badge in honor of two officers who tragically lost their lives on October 24th in Sacramento and Placer counties. Sacramento Sheriff's Deputy Danny Oliver and Placer County Detective Michael Davis, Jr. , during a massive search in Auburn for two suspects believed to have been involved in multiple shootings and carjackings in Sacramento and Placer counties. The two suspects, a woman and a man, were captured and jailed . Facebook Central Valley Police Chiefs Speak Out Against Proposition 47 Clovis Police Chief Matt Basgall joined a host of other local valley law enforcement leaders on October 29th at the Fresno County Chamber of Commerce in downtown Fresno to encourage citizens to vote "NO" on Proposition 47. The proposition was opposed by prosecutors, law enforcement, the business community, crime victims and sexual abuse victims. If passed (as it did on November 4th), means penalties for offenders who commit certain non-serious and nonviolent drug and property crimes would not be reduced. Potentially 10,000 felons could be released from state prisons. Prop 47 also reduces penalties for stealing guns and for possession of "date rape" drugs. Clovis Police Department Personnel Participate in "Walk Like MADD" Clovis Police Department officers and support staff participated in this year's "Walk Like MADD" event held at California State University, Fresno on October 18th. The event supports "Mothers Against Drinking and Driving" to raise awareness about the dangers of impaired driving. In some cases, participants walked in the memory of a friend or family member who perished as the result of a drunk driver. The event raised more than $17,500 from those participating from seven local law enforcement agencies. MADD Honors Three Clovis Police Officers for DUI Arrests Three Clovis Police officers received plaques to represent their work for apprehending drunk drivers at the annual OTS/MADD/ AVOID Law Enforcement Recognition & DUI Training seminar at the Radisson Hotel/Fresno Conference Center on October 22nd. Clovis Police Officers Santillan (80 DUI arrests), Bradford (49 DUI arrests) and Wade (46 DUI arrests) all received awards for their work. Clovis Police Participate in Red Ribbon Week Activities at Schools Clovis Police officers participated in a variety of Red Ribbon Week activities October 20th through the 31st. Among the many schools visited ~~~~~~~---=~~=; included Weldon Elementary, which offered WELDON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL its annual ~----=·= -~-;;;;;;m•·-....,__ · ~·~·~mm~"'9!_..parade through Old Town to Sierra Vista Elementary. Dry Creek and Gettysburg Elementary schools were also among the schools officers visited . Clovis Police Explorer Post 355 Gratefully Accepts Donation Carmel Village at Clovis presented members of the Clovis Police Department with a $500 check for Clovis Police Explorer Post 355, which will help out with expenses for training and competitions allowing the teenagers interested in law enforcement to train and participate with their counterparts throughout the state. We thank Carmel Village at Clovis for its support of our Police Explorers. Miss Winkles Clovis Pet Adoption Center Fundraiser /Fashion Show The ninth annual Friends of Clovis Pet Adoption Center fundraiser dinner on the evening of October 11th included silent auctions, gourmet food , entertainment and a pet fashion show. Clovis City Councilman Harry Armstrong held his donation challenge and patrons stepped up to the plate. Three hundred and fifty dinner guests purchased tickets for the event held at the Miss Winkles Pet Adoption Center for the first time. It's located at Sierra and Temperance Avenues. With "Harry's Challenge," the event generated $31 ,000. The proceeds go toward helping the animals.
