Circle Graph (Pie Chart) Project

Circle Graph (Pie Chart) Project
1. Pick a topic for your circle graph. You want to pick a topic that can be divided into 5 or 6 subgroups.
Some sample topics are listed below:
Ask 20-30 people, “What is your eye color?”
Ask 20-30 people, “What is your hair color?”
Ask 20-30 people, “What brand is your cell phone?”
Ask 20-30 people, “What is your favorite soda?”
Ask 20-30 people, “What brand of tennis shoes are your wearing?”
Tally the make of 20-30 cars in FHS parking lot
Ask 20-30 people, “Who is your English teacher?”
Ask 20-30 people, “What is your favorite types of music?”
2. Survey 20-30 students, tallying the results.
3. Calculate the percentage for each subgroup.
4. Calculate the central angle measure for each subgroup
5. Use a compass, protractor and straight-edge to construct a full-page, full-color, neatly drawn circle
graph. Make sure your graph is clearly labeled with a title and subgroup description (on graph or in a
legend).
Extra Credit: In addition to providing the hand-drawn circle graph, above, use Microsoft Excel (or other
spreadsheet software) to produce a circle graph of the same data. Measure the angles of the computergenerated circle graph to compare with the angles of your hand-drawn graph.
