Dear Parents,
Parking around School
TPS prides itself on the three traits which underpin our values and attitudes work, of respect,
responsibility and perseverance.
We teach our children to be polite to one another, respect
themselves and those around them and whilst off-site to conduct ourselves in a manner that portrays
all that TPS stands for. The community surrounding our school is just as much a part of this school
as the pupils, staff, parents and governors.
I appreciate that the local area becomes busy during the drop off and the collection of children;
however, I urge those of you who live locally to walk to school to ease congestion. If you are unable
to walk; I ask that you remember that our school is built in an area surrounded by the community of
TPS - people we look to for support throughout the year. Cul-de-sacs are not areas in which to park;
there is plenty of space to park on Townfield Lane; even if this requires you to walk a short distance.
When parking please keep four wheels on the road and look around you to check that you are not
restricting access for others.
Most importantly, wish our local community a friendly ‘Good
Morning/Afternoon’ as you pass. We have a school to be proud of and long may this continue.
Children Arriving after 9.00am
Please be advised that any child arriving to school after 9.00am from
Foundation 1 to Year 6 must be brought to the main office. They will then
be directed to their correct classroom.
Punctuality
Please can I remind you how important it is that children
arrive on time for school every day. Children who are late
are often very worried by the experience and this has a
knock on effect on their readiness to learn.
Children should be in school no later than 8.55am every day.
Bikes in School
A few parents have been asking about children bringing their bikes to
school. We are more than happy for children to ride their bikes to school
whatever age they are providing they are wearing a helmet and are under
your supervision. Unfortunately, we only have space to accommodate a
limited number of bikes in our bike shed. Therefore, only children in Year 5
and Year 6 may leave their bikes in school. TPS are unable to accept any liability for damage caused
to the bikes whilst they are stored in our bike shed.
Children riding their bikes to school will need to give them back to you before entering the school
premises. I should also remind you that children are not permitted to ride their bikes or scooters on
the school grounds.
Coats
It’s that time of year again – heading towards winter. We would ask all parents to send their children
to school suitably dressed for the weather. We would request that you make every effort to find a
plain winter coat in maroon. If you are experiencing any difficulty purchasing a coat in this colour
please contact Miss Anderson in the office on her email: [email protected] so she
can provide you with a list of retailers stocking coats and jackets in our TPS colour.
Year 5 Bike Ability – Swimming Monday 26th September
If your child has chosen to do Bike Ability the first session will be
Monday 26th September. Please remember that your son/daughter
will need a bike helmet, a bike that is road worthy and appropriate
own clothes.
PLEASE NOTE THAT CHILDREN INVOLVED IN BIKEABILITY
WILL NOT GO SWIMMING ON MONDAY.
Year 5 – 11+ Club Begins Tuesday 27th September
Mr Hughes will once again be running an 11+ club for any Year 5 pupil who wishes
to take the 11+ examination in September 2017. The club will be held on a
Monday from 3.30pm to 4.30pm starting on Tuesday 27th September.
The
cost of this club is £3.50 per week; however, we require payments to be made
on a termly basis. Your invoice will be sent home with your child on Friday 7th October.
Using the reply slip please indicate that your child will be participating and remember that they will
need to be collected from the school office at 4.30pm. If your child is not collected they will be sent
to TEDS and you will incur a charge. Children are not permitted to walk home alone at this time.
St Petersburg Russia – May 2017
It is with great pleasure that I can announce that we will be
taking a group of children to St. Petersburg in May 2017, the
week before the half term holiday. The cost of this trip will
be around £850.00, which can be paid in installments. We
realise that this is slightly higher than anticipated; however,
given the fall in value of our currency, as well as the £100.00
increase in the cost of the visa, this is unavoidable. To secure your child’s place on this trip, a deposit
of £100.00, which is non-refundable, needs to be paid by Friday 30th September 2016. There are ten
spaces available on this trip and spaces will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
If you have any questions, please contact Mr Hughes.
Foundation 2 – Numicon
During the F2 induction meeting we introduced you to Numicon, a
fantastic resource for teaching Mathematics.
Due to popular interest we would like to invite all parents to buy a
Home Learning Set of Numicon for £15.00. This will be used for home learning activities and will
support your child’s learning in Mathematics.
If you are interested please send your money and reply slip in an envelope, into school before Monday
3rd October.
Please note if your child qualifies for pupil premium you will receive this resource for free as well as
discounts on school visits and funding for school meals in Key Stage 2. You may be entitled to pupil
premium if you are in receipt of certain benefits. If you think you may qualify, please contact the
school office.
Asthma and Inhalers
If your child has asthma and uses an inhaler please could you
inform us using the reply slip attached. It is vital that we know
about any health issues concerning your child. We will require
you to bring to school an in-date inhaler and any spacers they
may use clearly marked with the child’s name and class. Even if
you have informed us previously about your child’s asthma we
would be grateful if you could still complete the slip.
Please also indicate if you give permission for your child to be
given one of our salbutamol inhalers in cases of emergency situations.
Year 1 Food Tasting
Year 1 will be taking part in a food tasting session as part of their
Science lesson. The children will taste a variety of different foods
including fruit and vegetables
If you do not wish your child to take part or they have any food
allergies please could you let the class teacher know.
You do not need to reply if you are happy for your child to
participate.
Time to Talk – DP Primary
Our School’s new website, from DB Primary, has a special page called ‘Time
to Talk’. If your child has any worries or problems, large or small, that
he/she would like to talk about, they can send Mrs Keenan, our TPS
Learning Mentor, a confidential message using this page. Mrs
Keenan will find time to talk to your son/daughter to support
him/her with issues or concerns he/she may have.
Christmas Pantomime
Each year we take the children to a live pantomime at the Floral Pavilion in
New Brighton. This year the Christmas pantomime is Cinderella! It is planned
for the morning of Thursday 15th December, leaving school after registration
and returning at lunchtime. This visit is open to all children from Foundation 2
through to Year 6. The price of a ticket is £20.00 per child, which includes
entrance to the theatre, coach travel to and from school and an ice
cream.
If you would like your child to join in the wonderful
experience of a live pantomime, please complete and return the reply slip.
All payments must be made by Friday 14th October. Unfortunately, if you do not
pay for a ticket your child will not be able to join in this exciting occasion.
Cheques should be made payable to TPS.
Year 5 London Parents’ Meeting – Monday 3rd October
We will be holding our Year 5 Parents’ Information Evening on Monday 3rd
October 2016 at 3.30pm. This event gives parents the opportunity to find out
important information and ask questions regarding the trip. Please inform us
of your attendance using the reply slip and returning it to the School Office.
Harvest Service at St Saviour’s Church – F2 to Year 6
Our TPS harvest service will take place at St Saviour’s Church on Monday
10th October at 2.00pm. We would be very grateful if parents could help
staff escort the children to and from church, parent helpers are invited to
join us for the celebration.
Foundation 1 (Care Bears, Teddy Bears and Sunshine Bears) children will
participate in their own harvest festival at TPS, in the Sunshine Bear room at
3.10pm. F1 parents are invited to join us in school for this Harvest celebration. The Dee gate will be
open at 3.00pm for parents attending the event.

to Year 6 may purchase toast at a cost of 20p per slice. All proceeds go
towards our Bloomtrigger Project.
