Extra Credit Summer Reading 2016-2017
Introduction
This is optional summer reading, but know that reading over the summer will greatly help
you in junior year. There are plenty of choices—graphic novel, fiction, and nonfiction. For
this assignment, you will choose one text from the list below and choose one of the options
from the Choice Board to complete for extra credit.

Summer Reading Choice Board
Directions: After reading the book you chose for summer reading, choose one square from each row (total of
three) to complete and turn in. This will be your credit for summer reading.
Draw a map of the
text’s setting. Be
detailed and write
two paragraphs
explaining the
importance of the
setting.
Create a play list of
at least 10 songs for
the text. For each
song, write a short
explanation of how
it connects to the
text (4-6 sentences).
Create a book trailer
(similar to a movie
trailer, but for a book!).

Your book trailer should
be at least 1 minute.
Choose a main character and
write three journal entries from
that character’s perspective. If the
book is told from 1st person, you
must choose a character other
than the narrator.
Make a 3-sided
travel brochure for
the location of the
text. Include details
directly from the
text.
Cast actors and
actresses for the
movie version.
Explain why these
are appropriate. If a
movie exists, recast
the movie.
Create two newspaper
articles of important
events from the book.
(min. 250 words per
article)
Create five memes regarding the
novel. For each meme you create,
explain the connection between
the common usage of the meme
and events in the book (5-7
sentences).
Write two poems
that describes an
internal conflict that
one of the main
characters is dealing
with.
Write a new ending
for the novel. Must
be at least 500
words, or one full
page single-spaced.
Write or record a rap or
song that details issues
within the novel. Should
include 3 verses and a
chorus.
Create a comic strip of 10 panels
detailing an important event or set
of events from the book.
