A note from Ms. Karacson
And then there was
May….
The weather has finally turned warmer,
and the end of the
school year is in sight.
Often, this puts both
teachers and students
in “survive” mode: racing the clock to make
sure we get everything
done before the arrival
of summer break.
While survive mode is
great in some circumstances (you know…
like bear attacks), it
lacks the foresight to
produce better outcomes in the future.
So, while we run from
the bear to survive, we
may get lost in the
woods.
Fortunately, as we
gain life experiences,
we are better able to
switch our survive mode
to thrive. This is the
time of year I have to
make a conscious effort
to keep my “switch” on
thrive. I cannot just
think about “surviving”
the rest of the school
year, I must think about
the upcoming school
year as well. May
should not be a time to
just “make it through;” it
should be a time to celebrate the magnificent
things happening at BV
East and the magnificent things to come.
is not merely to survive, but to thrive …
and to do so with some
passion, some compassion, some humor,
and some style.” I
think the latter part of
that quote is the key.
Let’s not settle for the
stress and consequences of the decisions we make in survive mode. Let’s wake
up each morning and
say, “Today is a perfect
day for a perfect day.”
Let’s thrive on the
thoughtful decisions we
make in order to invest
in a positive future.
There is a wonderful
quote from Maya Angelou: “My mission in life

First Grade visits the Zoo!
On Wednesday April 22, 2015 the first grade
students at BVEE enjoyed the experience of a lifetime at The Columbus Zoo! BVEE’ was awarded
the Learning is Wild Scholarship. This scholarship
ensures that every student experiences amazing animal encounters. The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium
believes every child deserves the opportunity to discover the wonders of the natural world. The Learning
is Wild Scholarship finances zoo admission tickets,
educational program fees, and transportation costs
for schools located in central Ohio who have a 30
percent or higher student population enrolled
in the free or reduced lunch program.
While at the zoo the students were able to
participate in the Extreme Animals of Asia educational program. Retired Buckeye Valley teacher Barry Orahood led this very engaging program in which
all of our students walked away with newfound
knowledge.
We are very thankful to The Columbus Zoo
and Aquarium for the opportunity afforded our first
grade students from BVEE in participation of this
dynamic program. “This is the best day ever!” was
heard over and over.

FOOD FRENZY CHALLENGE
In an effort to help the BV Food Pantry refurbish supplies and to allow students to
see the value of helping others, BV East will
be holding a Food Frenzy Challenge the
week of May 4-8. Any day next week, students are asked to bring food (canned
soup, fruit, beans, chicken, tuna or pasta,
boxes of potatoes, pasta, cereal, crackers,
salad dressing, coffee or tea bags) and/or
household items (shampoo, toothbrushes
and toothpaste). Thanks in advance for your
donation!
