Miss Dorothy Ivonkel has returned home from the Methodist hospital , Brooklyn , to recuperate for two
weeks when she will return to the
hospital for an operation.
Mrs. Alvin Smith was hostess to
the C. 0. D. S. club yesterday at
her home on Smith street .
Traffi c over the week-end on the
Middle Country road was very heavy
for this early in the season.
- Mr. and Mis; George Williams of
Centereach are parents of a son,
born Saturday in the Holbrook hospital.
Miss Vera Smith . entertained a
few of her friends at her home yesterday in honor of her birthday.
• ¦Herbert Lindreth " of Flushing and
Mrs, Lindreth of Brooklyn are at
their summer home for the season.
The 4-H Juniors met at- the' home
of Marion Smith last Wednesday afternoon.
After refreshments were
served , the girls sewed on smocks
and aprons. Lessons were also given on introducing people. The name
"Hub Dub" was selected as the club
name. * Another meeting will be held
at the home of Muriel Overton next
Wednesday. Plans are being made
for an exhibition of the girls' work
at a future meeting of the CenterLadies' auxeach Fire department

Mrs. Albert Campbell was hostess
at a dessert-bridge -party Friday afternoon for Mrs. Earl Anderson and
a friend of Valley Stream. Mrs.
Anderson was formerly of Centereach. Those present were Mrs. John
Pearl , Miss Alice Rogers, Mrs. Arthur Murray, Mrs. Alvin Smith , Mrs.
Dolphus Luce and Mrs. Albert Quattlander. Those winning prizes were
Mrs. Andei-son, Mrs. Quattlander
and Mrs. Murray .
A large delegation from the Melville church attended the Congregational church here Sunday ni&'ht.
The Rev. Herbert Elliott preached.
The guests brought musicians and
soloists with them from Amityville
and Brooklyn , as well as from Melville. The Rev. Walter D. Britt of
Middle Island and New York was
also present. Mr. Britt will , be the
speaker in the church next Sunday
night.
The Bible school was hel d Monday
night this week to allow the member's to attend the Houghton College
choir program conducted in Stony
Brook last night by Wilfred C. Bain.
The choir of the Congregational
church will meet tomorrow night for
rehearsal.
The Ladies' guild . ; of the Congregational .c hurch will meet Thursday,
April 14, at the home of Mrs. William Wortley.
Mrs. Florence Dickey of the Home
bureau will come to Centereach Parish hall to give a clothing lesson
April 20 , instead of today. Today 's
meeting was on "Laundering of Delicate Fabrics," given by Miss Dorothea Bentley, assistant agent.

practicing for SO years. His wife,
Dr. Kate Miller , may also claim some
distinction a's a practicing physician
and surgeon. Dr. Miller exports to
open his office here about May 1, devoting a few days each weok to local practice. He was accompanied
Sunday by his wife and two children ,
Josephine and Robert , and Edward
Freeman of Jackson Heights.
Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Gittler. and
their daughter Helen of 107-43 128th
street, Richmond Hill , spent the
week-end at their home on Coleman
road. Mr. Gittler and his family expect to be here every week-end until
June at which time they will come
out for the season, Mr. Gittler commuting to his business. Walter Blank
was their guest over the week-end.
Mr. and" Mrs. Paul Carl of 95-14
Jamaica avenue, Woodhaven , began
their week-end visits to their summer cottage on Coleman road this
week. Two years ago , Mrs. Carl
suffered severe attacks of asthma.
She was advised to try this climate,
the result being so pleasing that now
Mr. Caid built a home here to which
they come as often as business pei-mits.
Charles Rubino and Mr. and Mrs.
Edward Rubino of 69-26, Woodh aven
boulevard , Forest Hills, were in town
this week-end , preparing their summer home for their seasonal visits.

Sam Knettel entertained a number of friends Sunday at his home
on Smithtown boulevard , including
Mr. and Mrs. Otto Schuenemann of
Jackson Heights, Miss Ella Sendner.
Gus Riecke, Walter Nesdala , Arthur
Brenn and Henry Gratz , all of Brooklyn. Mr", and Mrs. Schuenemann
were looking for a place to rent for
the season and have decided to occupy Mr. Knettel's home about May 1.
Spending the week-end at their
home on Smithtown boulevard were
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Woehrlen of
89-14 70th • avenue, Forest Hills.
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Werneburg
were busily engaged this week-end
in painting and improving their
summer home here. Mr. Werneburg's
occupation as carpenter in the city
department of hospitals on Welfare
Island, which position he has held
for 32 years, permits him only weekend visits at present. However , he
owns enough property on Smithtown
boulevard to build a permanent residence for which he is making plans
now.
Preparing for their summer visits
here were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Larson of 28'8 Harmon street, Ridgewood.
Mrs. John Luce and son , John , Jr.,
of Larchmont were guests of Mr. and
Mrs. Dolphus Luce of Smith street
Thursday. On their return home they
were accompanied by Mrs. Emily G.
Hutson, who was their guest for several days.
Mrs. Henry Neus of Lake Grove
boulevard was visited last week by
her mother, Mrs. Macone of Flushing.
Bernard Williams , leader of the
Boy Scouts in Centereach , attended
his first class in a course for scoutmasters at the Central Islip High
school Thursday. The classes are to
be held every Thursday.
R. P. Anderson , Scout executive
for Suffolk county, will speak at the
Boy Scouts' meeting tonight at the
school.

attended a bridge part y at the home
of the Misses Caroline and Mildred
Josten in Holbrook .
Mr. and Mrs. Peter Seidensdrwartz
of Woodcliffe , N. J., were guests at
the home of Mr, and Mrs. Albert
Burmamv of Wood road , this weekend. About the middle of tins month
Mr. and Mrs. Seidensehwnvtz intend
to move here and will make their
home- in the Murray bungalow on
Smith street. Mr. Seidenaehwartz
will commute to his work in the city
where he is employed by Montgomery
& Ward company. Mrs. Seidenschwartz plans to open a beauty shop
in Centereach.
Mrs. Marcus Olsen of Middle Country road entertained her uncle and
aunt , Mr. and Mrs. Ebersteacher of
Flushing.

of Nicoll road , Lake Gro ve, were visited over the week-end by then - children and grandchildren.

league of the Lake Ronkonkoma
Methodist Episcopal church held a

charg e of Miss Jan e Roettinger.
Mr. and Mrs. Wellington Williams,
formerly of Smith, street, are now
living in their new home on Fulton
street .
The Brookhaven Town Highway association is holding a benefit card
party Thursday night at Vandall's
hall in Port Jefferson. The proceeds ,
are for the aid of the widow of a
deceased member of the Highway association , Timothy J. Morrissey, president, announces.
Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Reichle, of 1132
Jefferson avenue , Brooklyn , were at
their home on Wood road for the
week-end. Mrs. John Reichle was

Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Helf and
family, who have been living in Islip <
for several months, have returned to
their hom e on Wood road.
Mr. and Mrs. Peter Caldera , of 2337 82nd street, Jackson Heights, and
their young daughter Patricia were
in town Sunday, looking over their
summer home on Wood road. Mi'.
Caldera is an artist. As soon as the
weather permits they will return for
the season. Their guests Sunday
were, George Nye and his sons, Buddy and Billy, of Jackson Heights.
Sunday afternoon Mrs. Charles
Benson accompanied a group of
young people at a theatre party to
the Jamestown theatre to see the
picture "Checkers ," starring Jane
Withers. Among those in the party
were Shirley Benson , Caroline Helf ,
Jacqueline Benson , Rudy Helf , Kenneth Urban , George Larnont and
Robert Urban.
Mr., and Mrs. Max Fries entertained at a birthday party Saturday
afternoon in honor of their son Gerald. His guests included Myrtle Fries,
Jacqueline Benson , Caroline Helf ,
Herman Ruhlman , Rudy Helf , Freddy Ruhlman , Ral ph Wendel , Dexter
Shields , Dorothy Walsh and Russell

Henry Gehrig, Lou is Gehrig and

were week-end guests of Mr. and
Mrs. Harry Helf of Wood road. Mrs.
Catherine Ruble of Woodhaven was
their guest for several days last

Whitestone and their son Charles hegan their sojourns at their bungalow during- the week-end.
A delegation of five men attended
a meeting of the Brookhaven Town
Volunteer Firemen association last
Wednesday night held at Bellport.
Arthur Murray was appointed head
of this year's tournament committee ,
Francis Mo'en was appointed chairman of the annual dinner committee,
and John Pearl was elected first
vice-president.
A meeting of the by-l aws committee of the newly organized Centereach Taxpayers' association was
held last Wednesday night. The
members of this committee are T, J.
Morrissey, Arthur Murray, John
Pearl , George W. Moen , Frank Miuf-tinek and Everett M. Emery.
here until fall , Mr. Hehke commuting
to his business. They have been local summer residents since 1930. .
.Mr. and Mrs. Paul Ruecker of 8119 88th street, Glendale, also spent
the week-end at their home on Park
avenue. Their guests last week were
Mr. and Mrs. A. Link of 1981 Madison avenue, who, because of previous
visits, are known by many in our
summer colony. They sailed on the
S. S. St. Louis this week for Europe
in celebration of their silver wedding anniversary.
Mr. and Mrs. . Frank Lehmann, formerly of 2105 Linden street, Brooklyn , are now occupying their attractive new home on Main street. They
have spent many years here as parttime residents, but will now make
this their permanent home. Mr.
Lehmann will commute to his business in .the city.
Another summer place being put
in order for their seasonal visits is
that of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Seitz, 195
Woodbine avenue, Brooklyn. During
the past week-end they entertained
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Schuster of
Glendale.
Mrs. Bertha Kurz and her sons,
Charles and Fred Kurz of 64-49 59th
street, Maspeth, are spending this
week at their home on Wood road.
Frank Sharding of Glendale was
engaged this week-end in work on
the grounds of the new home -he is
building on Wood road.

Miss Marie Liagre of Brooklyn was
their guest Sunday.
Charles Haviland and his son ,
Charles Haviland , Jr., spent their
first week-end this season at their
summer home on Wood road. They
expect to come out soon with Mrs.
Haviland to stay for the entire sumher. Mr. Haviland , who is a painting
and decorating contractor , resides at
120-19 95th avenue , Richmond Hill.
