Farwell to Retirees
The Coppell Education Foundation’s 2nd annual Run to Fund 5K/10K
and Fun Run was a huge success with 1,000 runners participating. The
goal of the event was to unite with the City of Coppell to 1) raise
awareness of the community’s health initiatives and 2) create
awareness and support for the Education Foundation’s purpose of
bridging the educational funding gap in our schools.
The Coppell Education Foundation held its annual Academic
Recognition Banquet in May. The banquet honored the top 5% of the
graduating senior students from Coppell High School and New Tech
High @ Coppell. These learners each acknowledged a CISD teacher who
made the greatest positive impact in their academic careers. In addition,
campus Teachers of the Year were honored, and the District Teachers of
the Year were announced. (Pictured Harini Suresh and her Kindergarten
and 1st grade teacher, Kim Spence-Cottonwood Creek Elementary).
CISD’s current retirees have over 476 combined years of
service in Coppell Schools.

SUMMER PROJECTS
NEW LEE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL UPDATE
This summer, the CISD Maintenance Department will
continue to work on previously scheduled projects
including:
Much design work (utilizing bond funds set aside from the 2009
bond election) is underway in preparation for construction
of the new elementary school, now officially named
Richard J. Lee. Here’s a quick timeline of related activity:
• Replacement of the Coppell High School skylight
panels (compromised during the 2012 hailstorm)
• Painting throughout the district
• Classroom renovations
The only item on the May 2013 bond project list
to be included for summer construction is from
the Safety and Security category – the elementary
entry vestibules will be re-configured. Construction
for securing the secondary campus entryways
will follow.

Director of Facilities, Louis Macias, gives a tour of the new
entry vestibule to Board President, Anthony Hill, and Assistant
Superintendent, Sid Grant. This additional security measure
will be added to all elementary campuses over the summer.
Trustees to approve school name in June
Construction documents to be finalized in June
Bid process begins in July
Site construction starts late August/early September
The LEED certified building will be very energy efficient
offering geothermal heating and cooling and both natural
and LED lighting. There will also be rainwater collection and
an educational component for solar and wind power.
Technology fiber will be installed sometime prior to the
opening of the building in August 2014.
