New Brunswick Short Course Championships There were over 250 swimmers from across Atlantic Canada in attendance at the N.B.S.C.C. this past weekend at the C.E.P.S. building right here in Moncton. CVAC had 27 swimmers in attendance. All the swimmers from CVAC did amazing! Congratulations to Meghan Budd, Kaitlyn Izzard, Sarah Lecocq who all qualified for East Coast. Meghan got her final East Coast time in the 200-meter freestyle by slicing over eleven seconds off her previous best time for a time of 2:32.35. Kaitlyn got both her East Coast times at the N.B.S.C.C. this past weekend. Kaitlyn sliced almost seven seconds off her 200I.M. and 200meter freestyle. Sarah achieved her 200I.M. East Coast time this past weekend. Sarah now has a time of 3:06.63. Congratulations to Branden McKiel for setting three club records. Branden swam a great 200I.M. and placed 1st for the 13&14 year olds. The new club record in the 200I.M. is 2:24.96. Branden also set a club record in the 100-meter freestyle for 13&14 year olds. He swam a blazing fast 100-meter freestyle in 57.74. Branden then went on to swim incredible in the 200meter freestyle. He now has the club record in that as well with a time of 2:09.30. Branden also received a trophy for the high point 13&14 year old. Overall Branden swam away with four gold medals and two silver medals. He also won the 13&14 year old 50-meter backstroke. Thea Button, Jessica Duncan, Annie Frise and Andrea Greene all did very well at the meet. Thea swam away with a bronze medal in the 200-meter breaststroke and a silver medal in the 100-meter breaststroke for 11&12 year olds. Jessica Duncan placed 5 th in the 400I.M. by slicing over six seconds off her best time. Jessica now has a time of 6:00.65. Annie Frise chopped over a second off her 100-meter butterfly which was good enough for a sixth place finish. Andrea finished the meet with a bronze medal in the 100-meter backstroke and 200-meter backstroke. Benjamin Jelley, Samual Hamilton, Patrick Lavack, Melissa Lavoie and Grace Leblanc performed exceptionally well. Ben carved tons of time off his previous best times. He sliced over twenty seconds off his 200-meter backstroke and sixteen seconds off his 200-meter freestyle. He also swam over eight seconds better in the 100-meter backstroke. Sam swam away with a bronze medal in the 400-meter freestyle and a gold medal in the 800-meter freestyle. Patrick Lavack swam a great 200-meter butterfly and knocked off over eleven seconds from his previous best. Melissa Lavoie placed 2nd overall in the 200-meter breaststroke, 100-meter breaststroke and 50-meter breaststroke for the 15 & over girls. Grace finished 6th in her 800-meter freestyle. Grace also now has a personal best in the 200-meter freestyle by swimmer over nine seconds faster than she ever has before in her life. Bradley Macleod, Keira Northrup, Ethan Rice and Katie Smith took off an incredible amount of time off their swims. Brad knocked off over eighteen seconds off the 400-meter I.M., sixteen seconds off the 400-meter freestyle and five seconds off the 200-meter backstroke. Keira swam personal bests in everything she swam in. Keira dropped over ten seconds in her 200- meter freestyle, nine seconds in the 100-meter fly, eight seconds in the 200-meter backstroke, almost three seconds in her 50-meter fly and over a second in the 100-meter backstroke. She also had a best time in the 50-meter freestyle. Ethan destroyed his 100-meter backstroke by over seven seconds, nine seconds in the 200-meter fly, over three seconds in the 50-meter breaststroke and six seconds off his 100-meter fly. Katie Smith had a fantastic meet. She sliced over eight seconds in the 200-meter I.M., almost three seconds in the 100-meter freestyle, twenty-three seconds in the 200-meter backstroke, over twelve seconds in the 100-meter fly and over a second in the 50-meter breaststroke. Three other CVAC swimmers swam exceptionally well. Peter Smith, Leandra Stackhouse and Michael Walz did very well. Peter swam over sixteen seconds faster in the 200-meter fly and now has a time of 2:42.76. He also dropped over five seconds in the 100-meter fly, almost three seconds in the 200-meter backstroke, over two seconds in the 50-meter backstroke and over two seconds in the 100-meter backstroke. Leandra swam over two seconds faster in her 100-meter backstroke, six seconds faster in the 200-meter freestyle, one second faster in the 50-meter fly and over eleven seconds faster in the 100-meter fly. Michael had a great meet. He bettered his previous best time in the 200I.M. by slicing over seven seconds off his previous best. He also carved over a second off his 100-meter fly. Alex Thibodeau, Faith Sewell and Nick Thibodeau swam away with lots of hardware from the meet. Alex swam away with a bronze medal in the 200I.M. Alex also placed third in the 50meter backstroke eliminator. Alex is also now only four one hundredths away from his Eastern Canadian 50-meter backstroke time. Faith came home with a silver medal in the 200-meter butterfly and a bronze medal in the 100-meter breaststroke. Nick had a fantastic meet. Nick finished the meet with a bronze medal in the 200-meter breaststroke, 50-meter freestyle and 200-meter freestyle. Nick also won a silver medal in the 100-meter breaststroke. He now has a time of 1:16.75 for the 100-meter breaststroke. The coaching staff was extremely pleased on how well all the swimmers performed at the New Brunswick Short Course Championship this past weekend in Moncton. Keep up the incredible work!
