CITY RESIDENTS Weekly Residential Rubbish-Collection Program BAY HARBOR RESIDENTS Weekly Residential Rubbish-Drop-off Program The City’s 2017 Weekly Residential Rubbish-Collection Program will consist of a spring and fall collection period. Spring collection will be for a period of two weeks which will occur the last two weeks in May. Fall collection will be for a period of two weeks in September. This four-week-long program will provide collection services to residents located West of Howard Street on Tuesdays and to residents East of Howard Street on Wednesdays. Weekly, residential, rubbish-drop-off-program services again will be provided by the City of Petoskey Department of Public Works crews within the Bay Harbor portion of the City. This fourweekend-long program will provide rubbish drop-off services during a two weekend period in the spring and a two weekend period in the fall, all as listed below. Collection Areas Days Dates West of Howard Street Tuesdays May 23, 30 Aug. 29 & Sept. 5 East of Howard Street Wednesdays May 24 & May 31 Aug. 30 & Sept. 6 On the reverse side of this notice are listings of materials that may be placed for collection and those that are excluded from collection. Materials must originate from the residence, and not from elsewhere or from resident’s contractors. Materials for collection must be placed within curb-lawn areas of rights-of-way that is, between curbs and sidewalks; or just behind curbs where there are no sidewalks; or at street shoulders where there are no curbs. Materials that are placed for collection each week must not exceed two cubic yards (two stacks of material each measuring three feet long, by three feet wide, by three feet high, totaling about the size of a refrigerator). Materials must not be placed for collection earlier than 6:00 P.M. on the day preceding collection and must not be placed for collection later than 8:00 A.M. on the day of collection (violators of these time limits and collection requirements could be ticketed). Small Yard Waste The City will begin collecting small yard wastes (materials raked from yards, flowers, shrub clippings, etc.) weekly, every Thursday, beginning April 6, through June 1, 2017. Please do not place small yard wastes loosely along streets or curband-gutter lines as they could be washed into storm sewers. Instead, place them in sturdy, open, reusable containers that weigh less than 50 pounds, such containers will be left behind by collectors. Yard waste placed in plastic bags will not be picked up. Please have yard waste placed within curb-lawn areas of rightsof-way no later than 8:00 A.M. on the day of collection. Grass clippings will not be picked up by collectors but can be delivered along with other small yard waste to the south side of Sheridan Street, directly across from the City's Public Works facility. Brush Chipping and Disposal The City will provide brush chipping on the first and third Monday of each month beginning in April through November. Tree limbs and large brush should be placed along curb-lawn at residence and separated from other materials for collection. Brush piles must not exceed two cubic yards. Please Note: Tree limbs and brush will not be accepted at the City’s Public Works Facility, located on Sheridan Street. Drop-off is available at the Emmet County Recycling Center. City-owned, orange trucks - displaying the City's logo on their doors - will be placed within two parking areas at Bay Harbor on the following Fridays at 3:00 P.M., and will be available for use all day on Saturdays and Sundays, before being removed from their parking areas on the listed Mondays: Trucks Parked on Fridays Trucks Retrieved on Mondays May 26 & June 2 May 29, June 5 September 1, 8 September 4, 11 One truck will be placed in the southeast corner of Parking Lot "C" just to the east of Bay Harbor Drive, which may be accessed off Bay Harbor Drive or Village Harbor Drive, and one truck will be placed at the City's Preserve Well House at the southwest corner of Preserve Drive and Preserve Drive South. Materials may be placed within or beside the trucks. On the reverse side of this notice are listings of materials that may be deposited within or near the drop-off-program trucks and those that are excluded from the drop-off program. Materials must originate from residences, and not from elsewhere (materials may not be deposited at the collection sites from businesses or from the commercial contractors of residents). Tree limbs and brush can be collected from residences from April through November. Call the City's Department of Public Works - at 231-347-2500 - to make arrangements. Large appliances also may be collected directly from homes - again by calling 231-347-2500 but Freon must be removed from refrigerants, with certifications of removals attached to the appliance. Small yard waste - grass clippings, flowers, shrub trimmings, leaves, etc. - should not be delivered to drop-off sites, and such materials cannot be collected from residences. Instead, materials may be delivered - by residents, not commercial contractors - to the south side of Sheridan Street, directly across from the City's Public Works facility, 110 West Sheridan Street. Questions regarding recycling and waste disposal please contact the Emmet County Recycling Center at 231-348-0640 or visit www.emmetcounty.org/recycling Materials permitted for collection: Please remember that materials placed for collection each week must not exceed two cubic yards (two stacks of material each measuring three feet long, by three feet wide, by three feet high, totaling about the size of a refrigerator) • Furniture and household furnishings, such as sofas, chairs, mattresses, tables, lamps, floor coverings, and carpeting (carpeting must be rolled and secured in diameters of no greater than two feet and in lengths of no greater than four feet) • Appliances, such as, but not limited to, stoves, refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, hot water heaters, air conditioners (freon must be removed from all refrigerants by a licensed contractor and removal certifications must be attached) • Toys, bicycles, and sporting goods • Remodeling and construction debris (generated by the resident and limited to two cubic yards; roofing shingles must be placed within containers weighing less than 50 pounds) • Boards up to four feet in length and secured in bundles • Passenger car, van, and pickup truck tires with or without rims (limited to four per residence per year) • Earth, sod, rocks, and concrete (in sturdy containers marked “Save”, if desired, weighing less than 50 pounds) Materials excluded from collection: • Grass clippings (may be placed across from the Sheridan Street Public Works facility, but commercial contractors are excluded from using this drop-off area) • Household garbage (residents must make arrangements with private refuse-disposal firms) • Newspapers, magazines, and cardboard (these items should be recycled) • Scrap metal (these items should be recycled) • Clothing (these items should be recycled) • Electronics – Televisions, computers , stereo’s, etc. (these items should be recycled) • Vehicle parts and rims (these items should be recycled) • Fuel tanks/propane cylinders (these items should be recycled) • Manufacturing or trade wastes • Remodeling and construction debris not generated by the resident • Containers weighing more than 50 pounds (except for furniture and appliances) • Hazardous products, such as paints, chemicals, solvents, motor oil, and batteries.
