Thanksgiving holiday. The Chamber office
will reopen on Monday, November 30th @

As business and community supporters of the Salem Area Chamber
of Commerce, all members are cordially invited to come and celebrate
the Chamber organization and its initiatives and accomplishments at
this year’s Annual Meeting. Please join us on Wednesday, November
18th at the Salem Community Center. The business luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m. and the formal meeting and program will begin at
Noon.
Part of the Chamber’s By-Laws dictate that our organization must
elect six new additional Board Members who will serve a three year
term on the Board of Directors. These six new Board Members will be
presented to the Salem Chamber membership and voted upon during
the program. The Annual Meeting promotes fellowship among Chamber
members and it also recognizes a community leader with the
“Outstanding Citizen of the Year” award. We are extremely proud to
announce that the 2015 recipient will be Karen Carter. The Chamber
will also be honoring the 2015 “Business of the Year” - The Salem
News. New to the program this year, the Chamber will be honoring two
non-profit organizations. Receiving the “Non-Profit/Organization of
the Year Award” for 2015 is the Family Recovery Center and also the
Salem Rotary Club. ALL Chamber members and their guests are welcome at this celebratory event. The delicious buffet will be enjoyed at
the cost of $30.00 for Chamber members and $35.00 for non-Chamber
members. You are encouraged to please make your reservations by contacting Tammy at the Chamber @ [email protected] or

The Banquet of Salem
The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the Banquet of Salem on Monday, November 9th
at the Salem Memorial Building. The Banquet was
started on September 20, 2004. It has met food and
fellowship needs of the hungry and lonely in the Salem
area every Monday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
since its inception. The Banquet is very different from
a soup kitchen of the past because the volunteers not
only prepare and serve the meal, but they also sit down
and share the food and fellowship with the guests. The
Banquet has served over 11,393 meals at 63 banquets
from May 5, 2014 through April 27, 2015. Of those
meals, 1,181 were served to children. What a difference this makes to those it serves!
The Banquet organizers request that we have a
team of 22-26 members to assist with the preparation
of the food and throughout the night serving, dining
with the guests and clean-up. This does not mean that
you have to be present the entire time. We will need
volunteers beginning at 2:30 p.m. until the end of the
night, approximately 8:00 p.m. Would you be willing to
assist? Please consider contacting our Administrative
Assistant Tammy by 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 6th
to choose a slot that you would like to fill. Once you let
us know when you are available, we will send you
more details regarding what you will requested to do
during that time period.
We thank everyone for their consideration and look
forward to seeing you on Monday, November 9th!
Welcome New Chamber Members:
Thank you to this month’s new members who

Council Update
If you were unable to attend the
October Safety Council meeting,
you missed out on a great event! We were privileged to
welcome Ohio BWC CEO Steve Buehrer as our featured speaker. Those in attendance enjoyed Steve’s update on the BWC. We hope to have him return to Salem
in the future.
November’s Safety Council meeting will be held on
Friday, November 20th @ Noon @ the Salem Community Center. The topic will be on Combustible Dust.
The cost of the luncheon is $14.00 Reservations are
required no later than by Tuesday, November 17th.
You may contact Tammy @ the Salem Chamber @ 330337-3473 or @ [email protected].
Remember, ALL Salem Chamber members are
invited to attend the monthly Salem Area Safety
Council meetings. It is a great meeting to network
with fellow Chamber members. We hope to see
YOU at the next meeting!
Important Information Regarding
2016 Workers’ Compensation
Group Rating Program
In light of BWC transitioning to prospective billing,
the 2016 CareWorksComp group rating enrollment
deadline for the traditional discount group rating program is November 18, 2015 and the retro group rating
enrollment deadline is January 22, 2016. It is important to apply early so that you have adequate time to
evaluate your options. If you have not already applied,
please take a look at your potential premium savings
through the Salem Chamber’s Workers’ Compensation
Program that is administered by one of our partners,
CareWorks Comp. The workers’ compensation program was created to help our members maximize their
workers’ compensation premium savings and to provide them with quality claims management services.
Consider these points about the program:
CareWorks Comp evaluates your company for your
greatest premium savings options.
Maximum BWC projected premium and rate discounts of up to 53% in the traditional group rating
programs and premium rates of up to 63% through
the retrospective group programs for eligible businesses.
Unemployment program consulting services are included in the program.

Santa at the end of the parade on a fire

Chamber’s website @ salemohiochamber.org.
The annual Light Up Night ceremony will
be held immediately following the parade on December 3rd with Salem High
School “Encore” students performing on
the front lawn of the Chamber of Commerce. Santa
Claus will visit with the children and the Salem Historical Society will offer rides to see the Christmas
lights. Attendees are encouraged to bring a donation
for the Salem Community Pantry as they will participate in the parade and then park their box truck
in the Chamber’s parking lot after the parade to accept non-perishable items.
