AM Statistics: Chinese aluminum fluoride capacity down by 8.3% YOY in 2015
BEIJING (Asian Metal) 15 Jan 16 - According to Asian Metal Database, the annual aluminum fluoride
capacity in China declined by 8.3% YOY to around 1.1 million tonnes in 2015. In addition, data shows that
China produced around 651,000t of the material in 2015, down by 2.89% YOY. The average operating
rate in 2015 was around 59.2%.
The above graph shows that aluminum fluoride capacity kept climbing up from 2011 to 2014, but dropped
in 2015. From 2011 to 2014, Chinese primary aluminum capacity continued to increase, especially in
Xinjiang. Therefore, aluminum fluoride capacity followed the suit and became surplus from 2014, when
aluminum fluoride producers started suffering losses due to low prices.
In the second half of 2015, some Chinese producers halted or cut production due to sluggish market and
some other factors. Meanwhile, a few of plants removed production lines forever for gloomy outlook.
However, in Southwest China, a new aluminum fluoride project with capacity of 60,000tpy is scheduled to
come on stream in late 2016 or early 2017. Currently, there are no aluminum fluoride plants in Southwest
China.

This week, Chinese aluminum fluoride prices remained steady at around RMB6,200-6,400/t ex works.
After Chinese Spring Festival, the price may go down a bit as some producers may resume production.
