Pigeon River Elementary School

Pigeon River provides a challenging curriculum, while working in partnership with
families; to ensure academic success and lifelong learning skills for all students.
The integration of technology, a respectful, responsible and safe learning
atmosphere and a commitment to the environment all create Pigeon River’s strong
academic community geared toward meeting the needs of the 21st Century Learner.
Dear Pigeon River Families,
As the principal of Pigeon River the past 2.5 years, our school has
experienced many changes. The year of 2017, should bring a sense of calm as
the changes that have been implemented (be it assessments, curriculum, staff,
shared building,--you name it) will feel less like something new and more like
something that is business as usual. The nice thing about that is when it
becomes routine we are no longer focusing on the clumsiness of the new and
instead we can focus on getting better! For example, our teachers work very
hard to use the assessment data they receive about your child (be it classroom
tests, Fountas and Pinnell, STAR or FORWARD) to plan instruction that is
specifically geared to meet the needs of your child. Now more than ever the
classrooms at Pigeon River are not ones where students sit quietly and listen
to a teacher lecture, instead there are centers and small group guided
instruction lessons taking place that are flexed to present the curriculum at
your child’s level. Is there room to get better? Yes and we are always open
to feedback from you. But you can rest assured that our focus is on making
learning accessible to all and growing each of our student learners. At home
a way to support your child’s education is to ask them about what they are
learning, check out the completed work and homework that comes home
nightly, rehearse math facts and have your child read or read with your child
often! We are a team in this endeavor and your child will benefit immensely!
Happy New Year!
