About the Japan Society of Northern California
Founded in 1905, the Japan Society steadfastly pursues its strategic mission to
advance U.S. – Japan collaboration and understanding in a global context. The
Society strives to be the place to go for U.S. – Japan insights, opportunities,
collaboration, and networking.
The Society offers a truly distinctive U.S. – Japan connection. At its core, the
Japan Society of Northern California (JSNC) nurtures the unique U.S. – Japan
cross-cultural experience cherished by its members. This is accomplished
through offering a broad array of programs and networking opportunities. JSNC
also offers a very successful Japanese language instruction program for
individuals and on-site classes tailored for corporations.
Compelling programs and other activities are built on the Society’s core strengths

 Pre-eminent Bay Area academic institutions with a strong Japan focus
 Gourmet food and drink tied to San Francisco, Napa/Sonoma, Japan and
Asia
 Cooperative relationships with leading Japan, Asia, and Japanese
American organizations in the Bay Area and Japan
Signature programs include the “Annual Award of Honor Gala” honoring
distinguished individuals and organizations for their substantial contribution to
U.S. - Japan cooperation, the “Japan – U.S. Innovation Awards Symposium”
spotlighting significant U.S. – Japan innovation and entrepreneurship, a “Big in
Japan series” that features non-Japanese leaders of Japanese corporations,
“Taste of Japan” events that showcase gourmet food and drink, financial
programs offered in cooperation with the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco
and periodic major conferences exploring the state of Japanese corporate
governance. The Society also offers timely programs that enable members to
anticipate changes in Japanese business and politics and to stay connected with
Japanese culture.
