Candidate Criteria Guidance
IET Apprentice of the Year
This award is for an individual in at least the second year of an IET Approved Apprenticeship
scheme, making substantial contributions towards their employer or operational area. If the
candidate is currently an apprentice or has recently completed their apprenticeship and you are
using evidence gained during their apprenticeship, please nominate them for this award.
1. Under Section 3. Candidate’s education and training. You will be required to state the
qualifications included in the apprenticeship.
2. Under Section 4. Achievements. Report to include details of the candidate’s contributions
towards their employer or operational area which demonstrates an understanding of
engineering principles. Please include supporting evidence that demonstrates they have
made an exceptional contribution to a project or piece of work. Please ensure your report
provides the judges with concise details of a specific achievement by the candidate which
shows they have achieved “out of the ordinary” results.*
3. Under Section 4. Achievements Report to include evidence of any engineering
ambassadorial activities (schools, volunteer work, role model) and any personal
engineering achievements the candidate has undertaken or achieved and what the
outcome was.
4. Under Section 4. Achievements If you wish to include graphs, pictures or tables, please
could you ensure that all documents attached are relevant to the submission. That they are
submitted as one document of no more than four pages in size 12 font and don’t exceed
8Mb. These supporting documents are stored within the online submission system and can
only be downloaded by authorised personnel when they are assessing the submissions and
are not used for any other purpose.
IET Technician of the Year
This award is for an individual who is a professionally registered technician (EngTech or
ICTTech) to recognise exceptional engineering contribution to the profession with emphasis on
how they have demonstrated exceptional commitment to engineering/technology through their
technical and professional development.
1. Under Section 3. Candidate’s education and training. You will be required to upload the
candidate’s curriculum vitae (CV). CVs of more than 2 pages will not be accepted and will
be returned for shortening. You will also be required to state any qualifications previously
achieved or currently being undertaken by the candidate.
2. Under Section 4. Achievements Report to include details of the candidate’s contributions
to the profession with emphasis on how they have demonstrated outstanding commitment
to engineering/technology through their technical and professional development. Include
examples of work (completed within the last two years) that demonstrates an understanding
of engineering principles. Please ensure your report provides the judges with concise
details of a specific achievement by the candidate which shows they have achieved “out of
the ordinary” results.*

ambassadorial activities (School Liaison or mentoring) and any personal engineering
achievements the candidate has undertaken or achieved and what the outcome was.

IET Armed Forces Technician of the Year
Candidates who are currently serving in the United Kingdom Armed Forces can be nominated for
this award. United Kingdom MOD civil servants should be nominated for the Technician award.
1. Under Section 2. Candidate’s details Nominators are required to provide email addresses
(including a private email address) on which they and the nominee can be contacted should
they move posts from the time of nomination until 30 November 2017.
2. Under Section 3. Candidate’s education and training You will be required to upload the
candidate’s curriculum vitae (CV). CVs of more than two pages will not be accepted and will
be returned for shortening. You will be required to state any qualifications previously
achieved or currently being undertaken by the candidate.

to the profession with emphasis on how they have demonstrated commitment to
engineering/technology through their technical and professional development. Include
