BASED ON THE SHORT STORIES BY
JUAN RAMON JIMENEZ
Wednesday 8 May, 7.30pm
Tickets: £12 Adults | £10 Members
Age guidance: Beautiful puppetry for Adults, suitable for ages 11+
Duration: Approx 2 hours 30 minutes, including interval
Once upon a time, a hundred years ago, in Moguer, a small
whitewashed town near Seville, overlooking fields of vines, olives,
pomegranates and the Rio Tinto, there lived a little silver donkey called,
Platero, and the Nobel Prize winning poet, Juan Ramon Jimenez, who
was born and grew up in the town.
His best loved collection, Platero Y Yo (Platero & Me), paints an
affectionate picture of Moguer and the timeless Andalusian landscape
which influenced a whole generation of Spanish writers including
Garcia Lorca.
In this delightful new stage adaptation Mike Maran once again teams
up with Georgian director Levan Tsuladze and puppeteer Nino
Namitcheishvili. Top-selling classical guitarist Craig Ogden will
perform the musical score especially composed for the stories.

Explore the legality and morality of electronic sweatshops in China,
complete with armed guards, underage workers and disturbing tales
of the toxic effects of hexane in these factories. Agony shows how
one man’s story might not be able to topple an empire, but it can
certainly give it a righteous shove.
When the magic of Zoe's soft, sweet singing draws a beautiful unicorn
to her, everyone is delighted. But then Zoe finds that her unicorn is in
terrible danger.
Join PuppetCraft as they conjure up Adrian Mitchell’s magical story of a unicorn,

recreates the best-loved scenes and sketches
from Tony Hancock's career in a 90 minute show
that proves that some comedy is simply timeless.

Smugglers, shipwrecks, a haunted crypt, hidden treasure, vengeance and
enduring love are the ingredients of J. Meade Falkner’s classic
tale Moonfleet, brought vividly to life by Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. You may not remember Mrs Smith crossing the street in Hitchcock’s infamous
film The Birds, or Ms Schiffer and Miss Spoke lurking in the background of the
café, or Miss Shire working behind the counter in the petrol station...
In Jammy Voo’s Birdhouse, these minor characters step out of the shadows;
sole survivors of the bird attack that wiped out the town. Taking refuge in
the Coronet Cinema, they live in a permanent state of post-traumatic shock.
Will they now survive their own personal apocalypses?
This new literary adaptation was written especially for Bristol Old Vic Theatre
School with an original score by Dorset’s Tim Laycock.

Every day, a woman walks the beach alone. She is a social outcast, she spends her
days obsessively collecting each and every discarded and washed up object she
finds and places them in The Sea Cabinet. Charlie became a household name playing ‘Delilah’ in BBC2’s ‘This Life’

Continuing to work as an actress for the National Theatre and Rep around the

The popular night, set in the intimate Art Garden Cafe, boasts five
comedians, for just £5!
Star of BBC2's The Rob Brydon Show, Channel 4’s, Stand Up For The Week and

acts to an uproarious headliner.
Josh, is regarded as one of the best stand ups on the circuit, has achieved huge
success on TV and is a regular on the Saturday radio show on XFM.
Come along and see the brightest new talent on the UK comedy circuit right
here in Bridport!
Seann Walsh, shared Josh's impressive rise, and their joint TV credits include

Morris dancing may not be the most fashionable
way to throw shapes, but its centuries-old
traditions make it one of the most iconic folk
traditions in the UK.
The pathologically shy Angelique applies for
a job at a failing chocolate factory where she’s
interviewed by the pathologically shy owner
Jean-Rene. Will they ever overcome their shyness
and reveal their talents or their feelings?
Morris: A Life With Bells On is a heartwarming
‘mockumentary’ that follows the fortunes of
one of the leading Morris teams in the country,
Millsham Morris, and in particular its avant garde
and enigmatic leader, Derecq Twist.
This charming French film has moments
of Sound-of-Music whimsy and terrific
performances by Benoît Poelvoorde and Isabelle
Carré. And don’t worry if your French is rusty.
There are sub-titles, but you’ll hardly need them.

Tracy’s latest novel The Last Runaway features a
home-grown heroine. Young Quaker Honor Bright
emigrates from Bridport to the United States in 1850
and becomes involved in a movement helping runaway
slaves reach freedom. While her Bridport background
may be a touchstone, throughout the story she learns
how to be American. Tracy will bring Honor back home
in readings from the book, and will discuss her research,
answering the question: why Bridport?

Shonaleigh is dyslexic and a drut’syla, an oral
storyteller in the Jewish tradition. Storytelling is
in her blood and she travels globally, drawing on
her Yiddish, English and European culture, inviting
you into a world of image and myth with
breathtaking vividness.
Rebecca was hooked by storytelling at 5.00 in
the morning in a dark hut in the corner of a field
in Somerset and has been telling ever since.
From a background in improvisation, poetry and
theatre, she has performed at festivals, on stage
and radio and in schools. She is inspired by the
deep connection between myth and nature, and
has told in many strange corners of the land,
from wind blown cliff tops and ancient orchards
to tram tunnels beneath the city.
This haunting story carries echoes of Rapunzel,
Snow White and the Twelve Brothers and has
existed within Jewish folktale tradition for centuries.
Our tales travel and the themes within them cross
cultures, for they speak to us of the longings and
failings and the triumphs of the human spirit.
