Synopsis
This course is designed for learners who are able to talk about human relations,
jobs, health issues and travel and have completed Chinese Intermediate 1 or its
equivalent. It aims at building students’ confidence and the ability to discuss more
complicated topics in relation to consumerism, popular culture, and a deeper
understanding of the origin and development of Chinese characters.
Synonyms and word meanings are discussed and practised. Students and given
ample time to practice listening and speaking during the class and outside of it.
Around 200 new words are introduced in this course.
By the end of the course, students are able to discuss topics in online shopping
and their experiences with it, personal spending, consumerism, film stars and the
development of Chinese characters. They are expected to understand some
functional words such as 甚至、非要如此、理解、丝毫、之一、另外 and
sentence connectors like 就算……也……,前者……后者……,从……来看…….
