Week Beginning 20th Feb - Children will discuss different patterns on patterned dinosaurs. They will then sort
the patterned dinosaurs into groups of the same pattern.

Week beginning 27th Feb- World Book Week
Week beginning 6th Mar - Children will design their own dinosaur, including a pattern on the dinosaur’s body
using playdough and shapes. Children will read the story “Dinosaurs love underpants” by Claire Freedman and
Ben Cort. They will then design their own dinosaur using shape stamps to create a scaly dinosaur body.

Week Beginning 20th Feb - Children to go on a “Dinosaur Stomp”, walk around the small reservoir for a dinosaur
hunt 24th February.
Week beginning–20th Mar - Children will practice their skills to recognise, name and order lengths and sizes of
dinosaurs and dinosaur bones. Children to design and make 3d bones using white playdough.
Week beginning 27th Feb - World Book Week
Week beginning 6th Mar - Children to complete a dinosaur obstacle course. Children will explore and develop their
gross motor control by fishing in the water tray for dinosaurs that can swim.
Week beginning–13th Mar – International Week
eek beginning–20th Mar- – Children will warm up pretending to be a dinosaur and an archaeologist. Children to
complete a dinosaur obstacle course.
Week beginning–27th Mar Spring Bonnet – Children will parade around the EYC playground wearing their spring
bonnet.
Ongoing – Children to practice writing their name correctly. Children to practice holding their pencil between their
first 2 fingers and thumb. Children to practice forming letters correctly.
Understanding the World (UW)
Week Beginning 20th Feb - Children will discuss the differences between each dinosaur using the
book ‘Dinosaur Stomp’ by Carol Diggery Shields as a stimulus. Children will create two new roleplays – “Dinosaur Dig “ and “Museum” (using Harry and the dinosaur at the museum). .Children to go
on a “Dinosaur Stomp”, walk around the small reservoir for a dinosaur hunt 24th February.

recognition of rhyme and rhythm by identifying the words that rhyme in the dinosaur rhymes.

Teague. Children will discuss the story using vocabulary ‘and’ and ‘because’ in their sentences.

Week beginning–13th Mar – International Week
Week beginning–20th Mar – Children will read the book, ‘Dinosaurs Galore’ by Giles Andreae and David
Wojtowycz..Children will practice their oral segmenting and blending skills by recognising the rhythm in the spoken
words for dinosaur names. They will also squeeze together broken sounds to identify the correct dinosaur.
Week beginning–27th Children will read the book, ‘I’m sure I saw a dinosaur’ by Willis and Reynolds. Children will
practice following simple instructions by placing dinosaurs in given places.
Ongoing: Daily phonics activities to develop our listening and phonics skills.
Week beginning–20th Mar- Children will hunt for the dinosaur bones in the sand pit that they have
made using playdough. Children to make large dinosaur feet and use these to make dinosaur footprints with paint. Children to talk about how archaeologists have found out so much information
about dinosaurs – relate back to their learning in the “Dinosaur Dig” role play.

different features. They will then give their dinosaur a name, including alliteration with support.

Monday 20th March – Children to read the story “How do dinosaurs clean their room?” by Jane
Yolen and discuss how to look after our belongings.
Ongoing – Teachers to reinforce the importance of classroom rules and ensuring that every child is
improving in this area.

design activities when learning about different countries.

Week beginning 27th Mar- Children will use the book “Say Hello to the Dinosaurs” by Ian Whybrow and Time
Warnes as a stimulus for discussing and experiencing different textures. Children will find different textures
outdoors, make rubbings and describe what they find, relating this to what a dinosaur’s scales might have felt
like.
 Spring Break
Ongoing – Children will develop their imagination and their understanding of change and time in the “Dinosaur
Dig” and “Museum” role play.
