Look back with pride and move forward with confidence
I’m sure you’ll be pleased to hear
that we’ve started term three with
the same vigor that you’ve come to
expect from us. This is often the term
that we have to fight off all the
coughs and colds so it’s a great
time to reignite your child’s passion
for fruit and vegetables if it’s not
already there, making sure they get
lots of vital vitamins.
Talking of
healthy, how are the New Year’s
WEBSITE
Resolutions going? I wonder how many are related to Health & Fitness. Here at school, I
led the first staff ‘Step’ class of the season and I have to say that I was most impressed.
They’re quite a fit bunch that we have here. You’ll have noticed that the workmen have
now disappeared and we’re pleased to say that we’ve come to the end of the roofing
project – the removal of scaffolding over the next week or so will soon return us to our
former glory. We’re just about to complete the next phase of our re-branding with
signage being put up and the new website design now underway. Don’t forget that you
can come and share your ideas and views at the next Parent Voice meeting which is
being held at the school on Monday 1st Feb at 6pm; please join us if you can. Today’s
photo shows our Eco Council presenting the range of beautiful plants they have bought
for the school using the funds raised in sales in the Autumn Term. Each class has been
tasked with caring for these as part of developing our ‘greener’ environment. The
council ask that if you have any ceramic type pots that indoor plants could be kept in for
watering and no longer want them, that you donate them to the school. Thank you.
I can’t finish off today’s newsletter without mentioning some of the fantastic events at
the end of last term. I’d like to say congratulations to all of our Award Winners but a
particular well done to those who received the Headteacher’s Award; they certainly
seemed to enjoy their tea party. Thank you to you all for your contributions to our Text
Santa appeal as we were able to send off £126.47 to the charity. The array of jumpers
was astounding. And lastly, I hope you enjoyed the special treat of hearing our children
on Heart Radio on Christmas Eve. If you didn’t manage to catch it, you can hear it on
our website.

‘HANDWRITING HEROES’
Congratulations to the following children for working hard to develop their handwriting:
Eva Edgson, Freddie McArthur, Max Heames, Matthew Jones and Tom Hopkins
We’ve now started the process of
designing a new website. You
can start using our new website
address now – this will still take you
to our existing site in the
meantime. We hope to be live
with the new site by Easter.

Could you qualify for
financial support?
We always try and keep costs for
you as low as possible when we’re
putting on extra-curricular trips
and activities but we do know
that when you add uniform and
other things on top it can all add
up. With a quick check on the
www.myfreeschoolmeals.com
website, you might be surprised to
see you could qualify for
additional funding for your child.
This is known as the Pupil Premium.
Not only does it mean that your
child can receive a Free School
Lunch
(Reception
and
KS1
already receive these), but the
school can also assist you with
school-associated costs. Do your
check this weekend.

Rockingham News
This term Rockingham class are leaving
Ryhall and jetting off to the fascinating
country of INDIA! We have begun by
learning the story of Rama and Sita and
the story Monkey See Monkey Do and
tried to write them in our own words
using powerful language. We have also
developed our knowledge of the
number system in Maths and have
practised adding and subtracting and
solving word problems about India. We
have located India on a map and
begun to learn its geographical
features. We have compared homes in
Ryhall to those built in an Indian Village.
Also we have learnt the countries and
capital cities of the UK. Ms Walker has
started our Indian Dance in PE and the
children are already very keen to be
showing you all what they can do.
Watch this space!
‘Ryhall Readers’
The first ‘Ryhall Reader’ awards of the
Autumn Term have been awarded to:
Albert Birch, Isla Ecclestone, Demi
Gorman, Olivia Linnell and Kyle Bonsall.
Well done all.
Extra-Curricular Success
Congratulations to Reece Bates and
Amelia Burt for achieving their Bronze
Citizenship Award.

Hambleton News
Welcome back to a new term where
Hambleton Class are learning all about
RAIDERS ~ Vikings as invaders and
settlers, although the children are far
more excited about the prospect of
raids and all that goes with it!
These first couple of weeks back have
already been packed with lots of
learning. We have written narrative
poems about the Viking raid on
Lindisfarne
using
some
fabulous
descriptive language as well as
discovering where the Vikings came
from and subsequently travelled to for
trade. Over the next few weeks we will
begin to find out more about the
Vikings as raiders and villains as well as
how they lived – it’s not all blood and
gore!
Congratulations to Chloe Finch for
passing the Stage 1 Swimming Award
and to Riley Keel for his achievements
in Kick Boxing; he is now the proud
owner of a Brown Belt. Well done all.
Welcome Mrs Blyth
Tolethorpe News
Our theme for this term is Location,
Location, Location. In Tolethorpe we
are embarking on a very exciting
adventure finding out about Ryhall,
travelling to Europe and beyond! The
Ryhall Airways Chief Executive has
started to train Mrs Jesson and Mrs
Gibson as pilots but they are not doing
very well. They keep causing problems
and last week Tolethorpe pupils even
had to help them find out about the
points of the compass so they could use
their flight paths correctly. This week we
have also written travel brochures to try
and encourage people to fly to Ryhall
on their holidays. As Mrs Jesson and Mrs
Gibson are not doing a very good job in
pilot training the Chief Executive told us
that we might all be enlisted on the
course for training so we used
Purplemash on the laptops to see what
we might look like as a pilot. We
thought we all looked fit for the job!
We’re delighted that Nurse Jane has
returned as our School Nurse.
She’s
coming in on Monday to deliver our
annual Epipen training to all the staff. To
support her in her work, we’d like to
highlight the Rutland & Leicestershire
website ‘Health for Kids’ which can be
found at www.healthforkids.co.uk. There
are sections for both children and
parents/carers. Do take the time to have
a look at this together.
‘I have thoroughly enjoyed my first
week at Ryhall CE Academy as the
new Burghley Class Teacher. Both the
children and staff have been most
welcoming and have really helped me
to find my feet. It has been a pleasure
getting to know the children and I look
forward to helping them develop and
progress over the course of the year. As
parents, your input is valuable and I
look forward to meeting you at
parents’ evening next week.’
Word of the fortnight
Pensive (adjective)
Meaning: engaged in, involving, or
reflecting deep or serious thought
‘a pensive mood’
Synonyms: thoughtful, reflective,
meditative, serious, dreamy.
See how many times you can use it.
The children have come back to school
full of enthusiasm and are loving our new
castle themed writing area. Lots of letters
have been written to the fairies in the new
fairy garden and in the post office role
play... I think a visit to the post office in the
village will be a must this term!
We have been looking at the properties
of 2D shapes in Maths as well as addition.
Year ones have also begun to look at
British coins, the different values and
making totals using different coins.
We began the New Year with a visit to the
library for story time. This is now a regular
feature in our calendar and happens the
first Thursday of every month. We listened
to some super new stories that we hadn’t
heard before and we are going to take
our school library card with us next time so
we can borrow them for the classroom.
We do need your support in getting the
children to come into class in the
mornings more independently. You are
more than welcome to walk them in
quickly, but please encourage them to
put their belongings away themselves
and find their own name for the apple
tree. If your child is happy to come into
school without you, please do encourage
this. It will make the transition to Key
Stage 1 so much smoother for you and us!
Recycle your Stamps
Don’t forget that we’re collecting your
used stamps for ‘Guide Dogs for the
Blind’. Please bring in your stamps in
January. 10 stamps = 1 House Point.
Benjie Tinker in Reception class earned
himself a whopping 33 House Points in
Week One!
