Our Top Tips to avoid mats:
It is never too late to give your dog’s coat a fresh start and form good grooming habits, your dog will love you
for it! Bring your pet into Best Friends for a one-on-one lesson on your pet’s special grooming needs. We will
also help you fix any existing trouble spots your pet may have. Plus a clean, happy dog is much nicer to have
around!
• Brushing your dog regularly during coat changes. Puppy-adult coat changes usually happens between 8
& 14 months for most dogs
• Treating the cause of your dog’s itchiness so the skin doesn’t remain irritated after the mats are clipped
• Brushing the coat correctly; make sure fur is separated and brushed carefully right down to the skin
• Brush in sections to avoid missing any areas
• Using the correct grooming tools
• Brushing long coated dogs a few times a week (every day to every 3rd day) and getting them groomed a minimum of 6 times a year
• The longer the length, the more often the dog should be groomed in order to maintain the clip and keep the coat in top condition
