7th Grade Science Chapter 4 Cells: The Basic Units of Life Lesson Objective 4:1 Organization of Life In-Class Lesson Introduce Chapter 4, Cells: The Basic Units of Life. Page 78. Using Lab on Transparency teach students step by step on how to write up a Lab. Students will write-up Onion Lab in class. Have students work in table groups to do Transparency Lab. Students may take lab home to perfect it. Microscopes and Red Onions. To show that all living organisms are made up of cells. Explain how life is organized from a single cell to an ecosystem. Have students view internet video’s on cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems. Describe the difference between unicellular and multicellular. Have students view internet video’s on organism and ecosystem. To see how different species of birds can share the same habitat. Review 4:1 4:1 Assessment Homework Student must write homework instruction given daily in classroom—changes may occur! Pages 80-81. Read, discuss, and take notes. Students must know that any living thing has a least one cell. Tissues are groups of cells and organs are groups of tissues. Final Draft write-up at home, be sure to attach draft from class work to final lab. DRW pgs 21-22, #’s 3-7, 9-12. Standards 1a,1b,1f,5a, 7b Pages 83-84. Read, discuss, and take notes. Have students write-up populations and community lab: Can three different bird species share the same habitat? DRW pg 23, #’s 15,17,18-27. Standards 1a,1b,1f,5a, 7b Have students work in class on the lab and most importantly the graphing of the habitat. Have students go over questions and review them by presenting answers to class with illustration, SLE, and standards. Students will take a quiz to review Lesson 4:1 Final Lab.
