CHAPTER SPOTLIGHT: (ISC)² Philadelphia Chapter Chapter CPEs

CHAPTER SPOTLIGHT:
(ISC)² Philadelphia Chapter
The (ISC)2 Philadelphia Chapter received their charter in July 2012.
However, with being in the historic city of Philadelphia, they decided to
hold their inaugural meeting on a special date that won’t be seen for
another century – 12/12/12!
The mission of the Chapter is to drive thought leadership, to make an
impact on society while providing opportunities to its members, and to
develop leadership skills. Within a few months of receiving their
charter, the Chapter has successfully grown its membership by 30%. “I
am amazed with the spirit of our members and their determination to
take this initiative to take to next level” states Sanjay Chhillar, the
chapter’s president. Besides sharing knowledge via chapter meetings,
the team has taken a few key initiatives to make a positive impact on
the society.
Some of the key initiatives and achievements of the (ISC)2
Philadelphia Chapter include:
Playing a key role in successful organization of the second
annual (ISC)2 Security Congress 2012
Contributing to social causes, such as Safe and Secure Online
Associating with charities, such as United Way
Collaborating with local universities to connect with the young
professionals
Taking the initiative to bring together other local IS chapters
(ISACA, ISSA and OWASP Philadelphia Chapters)
Initiating a discussion for collaboration with ICSPA
Connecting with (ISC)2 to conduct (ISC)2 certifications training
and host secure events
Opportunities for thought leadership and involvement with the local
community through SSO and ICSPA are available to chapter
members. By connecting with schools and universities, the Chapter will
engage with young professionals to provide them with a knowledge
foundation in information security. The (ISC)2 Philadelphia Chapter is
in the process of planning more initiatives and programs, so check out
their website regularly to learn more, or contact Sanjay Chhillar.

CLM: From San Francisco to
London
During the RSA Conference in
San Francisco last month,
(ISC)2 held a Chapter
Leadership Meeting (CLM) to
provide an opportunity for
officers to discuss their chapter
plans and programs, while
sharing their successes and
challenges in establishing and
maintaining their chapters.
Several officers attended from
chapters across the U.S., as
well as from Japan and Singapore, in which they learned about various
tactics for fundraising, retaining members, community involvement and
professional development from the National Capital Region,
Sacramento and San Francisco Chapters who presented details on
their structure, operations and the various programs they offer
members.
The next CLM is planned for London during the Infosecurity Europe
conference. The agenda will feature programs that have been
spearheaded by chapters around the world, such as young
professionals and women in security groups, along with opportunities
to get involved in (ISC)2 initiatives, including the Secure Leadership
Series and the (ISC)2 Foundation’s Safe and Secure Online program.
In addition, the CISSP exam will
be available in Korean via CBT
on selected dates. The first
exam will be available on
March 26, 2013.
Both exams are available at the
approved Pearson VUE testing
centers in China.
