bubbles of all sizes, produced by adding bicarbonate of soda, gasoline, or
other substances to the melt. The bubbles make the glass semi-opaque
and give the surface an irregular texture. It is said that Pulegoso was
developed by Napoleone Martinuzzi (1892-1977) on Murano in 1920’s.

ANJOU MIRROR
A trumeau mirror is a wall mirror
originally manufactured in France
in the 18th century. It takes its name
from the French word trumeau,
which designates the space
between windows. Reproductions
of 18th-century trumeau mirrors
became popular in the Regency
period and in the 1950s, when
French furniture was popular.
Wealthy collectors in the 19th
century bought mirrored trumeau
panels and hung them in their own
homes, like this one in the Nissim de
Camondo house museum in Paris
“If I remember right it was the
French who taxed the plate glass
(mirror) material that they were
producing in the 1600’s.
After a certain size the glass price
would be taxed so designers and
frame-makers added the “split” to
side step the tax, hence the split.”
Max Ingrand for Fontana Arte.

37” x 23”.
In the English Classical late C18th style, the original version
of these large ‘guitar’ shaped mirrors is attributed to the late
Georgian architect James Wyatt, who often used the depiction of
the draped ceremonial ox-head in his decorative plaster friezes.
