Instructions for Activity 2
In this portion of the study you will be asked four questions about your
performance in Activity 1.
Your payment for Activity 2 will depend on your answers to two of the
four questions in Activity 2. Specifically,
• One of the four questions below will ask you how many of the 30
questions in Activity 1 do you think you answered correctly. Your
payment will be determined as follows:
o If you correctly estimate the number of questions that you
answered correctly in Activity 1, then you will receive $5.
o If your estimate of the number of questions that you
answered correctly in Activity 1 is within 5 of the number of
questions that you actually answered correctly, then you
will receive $3.
o Finally, if your estimate of the number of questions that you
answered correctly in Activity 1 is within 10 of the number
of questions that you actually answered correctly, then you
will receive $1.
• One of the four questions below will ask you to compare the
number of questions you think you answered correctly in Activity
1 to the number you think the typical participant answered
correctly in Activity 1. In particular, you will be asked to estimate
how many more—or fewer—questions you answered correctly in
Activity 1 than did the typical participant. The number of
questions answered correctly by a typical participant will be the
average number of questions answered correctly by all
participants in this session. Your payment will be determined as
follows:
o If you correctly estimated your performance relative to the
typical participant, then you will receive $5.
o If your estimate was off by 1 or 2, then you will receive $3.
o If your estimate was off by 3 or 4, then you will receive $1.
• The other two questions in Activity 2 will not affect your payment
for Activity 2.
