2014 Graduation Event Guide Important details regarding your graduation event weekend. July 26, 2014 Chicago, Illinois To the Graduates of the Class of 2014, Your graduation day is almost here. What will you remember most? Walking across the stage to confirm your degree, the smiles on your family and friends’ faces seeing you accomplish your goals, moving your tassle from the right to the left, or the nights staying up late to prepare for an exam. As you begin thinking about the next step after graduation, remember the professors who made a difference and the classmates who came through a tough class with you. These lessons of teamwork and class work are just as important to your future career as the academics. When you are fitted with your cap and gown, remember the graduates and leaders who walked across the stage before you at the start of their educational journey. Build upon the momentum from graduation and keep your passion for learning. I wish you well as you prepare to graduate and begin the next exciting chapter in your life. We are proud of you and all that you have accomplished at Kaplan University. Career Services can help you to prepare for life after graduation. We help Kaplan University students and alumni define their career goals and take the steps to pursue them. Through partnerships and individualized assistance, our students have the opportunity to develop career-related skills for a competitive global employment arena. Career Network The Career Network is accessible via the KU Campus portal to currently enrolled students and graduates of Kaplan University. The Career Network is designed as a social platform for our students and graduates to collaborate with each other and the Career Services team. Career Services monitors the Career Network from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm ET to answer specific job search questions. In addition, students can search for jobs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The job tracker has been created specifically for Kaplan University students and focuses on positions based on a student’s program of study and geographic location. The tracker houses job posts from CareerBuilder and its partners, thus offering a large number of available jobs for students to view. The job tracker feature built into the Career Network will record each student’s or graduate’s specific job search activity. Students can review how many jobs they have looked at, see how many they have applied for, and keep track of the positions that they are interviewing for. This data is beneficial in helping students follow up on job openings they have applied to and gauge their actual efforts in the job search. It also assists in conversations with a student’s assigned Career Specialist, who can give additional advice on resumes, interviewing skills, and networking assistance. In addition to its social function, the Career Network allows students and graduates to create a professional profile that offers the opportunity to: > Complete a work interest assessment > Build a resume and cover letter using the online tool, Optimal Resume > S ign up for an exit interview with a Career Services staff member upon graduation > Update current employment status > Apply for employment opportunities geared toward their program of study and geographic area For more information on Career Services, visit us in the Graduate Services Area on Friday, July 25 from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm Nickyla Harris Graduate, School of Health Sciences 10 10 Please take a few moments to complete the form below and send it back to the Career Services team via fax to 800.506.8667.
