A newsletter for Communities In Schools Volunteers October 2012 Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! One hour a week will change a child’s life! Two Cents Tip Volunteer Highlight Suggestions for your first day! Mrs. Lori Rogalski Bring pictures or items important to you to share with your mentee. Write a list of questions you would like to talk to your mentee about like their interests and passions. Put yourself in their shoes. Be positive and patient. Building a strong relationship takes time. Morningside Middle School During the 2009-2010 school year, Lori began mentoring Destiny when she was in the 4th grade. Destiny is now a seventh grader at Morningside Middle School and has developed a lifelong relationship with Lori. Lori visits Morningside once a week to have lunch with and mentor Destiny. She has almost become another family member to Destiny’s family because she is on Destiny’s emergency contact card. In her spare time, Lori has attended the family’s graduation and birthday celebrations, church outings, and even dance recitals. Allison Rayle, CIS Site Coordinator at Morningside, says “Without people like Lori, our students would not have positive role models in the community.” Check out the tour of how the Communities In Schools model works! Save the Date! Thanks to Lori’s dedication, Destiny has a mentor in her life that she has grown to count on and call when she is in need. (volunteers needed!)
