World Book Day
Next Friday 3rd March, we will be holding our celebration of World Book Day. The children will come into school in their
school uniform. They may bring in PJ’s or onesie’s, without feet, to change into during the day as the theme this year is
‘Bedtime Stories’ if they wish to they may also bring in a small cushion and a small toy with their favourite book.
If parents or grandparents have any spare time to come into school to read to the children the classes would be delighted to
welcome them. Reading sessions will take place from Monday through to Friday at 3pm, the children in class 3 and Class 4
would particularly welcome visitors. If you are able to come in to read, please inform the office with your preferred time and day
so that we can arrange a schedule.
The Book Week offers a great incentive to children to encourage them to read and as usual they will all receive a £1.00 voucher
that can be used in book shops or can be used to purchase books through the Scholastic Book Club which can be accessed via
the website.
Saracens North Herts Year 5/6 Tag rugby festival
It was the coldest day of the year and a group of Year 5/6 pupils took on the challenge of playing tag rugby, at Letchworth Rugby
club, in what can only be described as arctic conditions. All the schools taking part were much larger schools than Breachwood
Green and were fielding more than one team. But, not daunted by the weather or the much larger schools, our team showed
much determination and great team spirit in supporting and encouraging each other. It is with great pleasure that I can report our
team won every game and were the only team in the whole festival undefeated.
BWG 7 – 2 Norton St. Nicholas, BWG 7 – 3 Pixmore,
BWG 4 – 2 St. Andrews CE, BWG 6 – 4 St. Christopher
BWG 5 – 2 Wymondley JMI
Congratulations to: Cameron, Ashton, Alfie, Ruby D, Maddie, Roshan, Ted, Jamie, Beau and Sienna. A huge thank you to Mrs
Wyatt, Mr Nolan and Mrs Harrison for helping with transport.
Thank you to Mrs Feasey for managing the team for the day.
Singing Workshop
Report by Sophia H ‘The Singing Workshop was at Princess Helena College in Preston on Monday. It was a lot of fun. We sang
a lot of different songs, some in different languages. We also had really nice cookies and juice. At the end of the day we
performed to the parents.
Everyone really enjoyed it and wouldn’t mind taking part again.’
Many thanks to parents and staff who helped with the transport.
Parking
We are asking parents/carers not to park on the grass verges on the right hand side of Oxford Road as it causes a lot of
inconvenience to other road users.
Safer Internet Day
Once again the school took part in Safer Internet Day 2017 with the theme 'Be the change: Unite for a better internet' and the
children learnt about how they can keep safe and protect their privacy when using the internet. Information on how to support your
child was distributed to all parents via email with tips and advice together with the Spring Newsletter which highlighted particular
eSafety concerns for primary school children including the use of Musical.ly which requires parental supervision. We have noticed
that there are a number of children in Class 4 using this app at home which is gaining popularity very quickly amongst primary
school children and parents should be cautious and apply the same logic to this as with any other opportunity for their children to
contact or be contacted by strangers.
If you have recently changed your email address or did not receive the email concerning eSafety please let the school office know
who will update your details.
Piano and Guitar Tuition
If you have ever considered music tuition for your child there are great opportunities in school for lessons in piano and guitar with
an immediate start. Our peripatetic teachers come in each week. Mr Cook who teaches guitar can offer either shared or
individual lessons in classical or electric guitar, whilst Mrs Davis offers individual lessons of 20 minutes in piano or keyboard
Charges are £136.00 (11 weeks tuition) per term, for 20 minutes or in the case of a shared 20 minute guitar lesson £68.00.
Please let the office know if your child would be interested as soon as possible so that a timetable can be arranged for them.
Isle of Wight
All trips and travel arrangements have been made. Although we do not know the final charges due we would encourage parents
to make regular payments before the final payment date 5th May. You are able to make payments via the Gateway payment
system accessible via the school website or if you prefer by cash/cheque.

Big Pedal 2017 - Check your bikes!
Dear School,
It's not long until the Big Pedal begins and it’s time for your pupils to get their bikes
and scooters prepared for the event.
If they're planning on cycling during the Big Pedal, encourage them to complete our
M Check before the first day of the challenge. Like any machine, a bicycle will work
better and last longer if it's cared for properly.
For those scooting during the challenge, your pupils can complete our L Check to
make sure their scooter is safe to ride.
Over 1000 schools have registered so far and it’s not too late to take part if you
haven’t already signed up. For more information and to register, please visit our
website.
Best wishes,
The Big Pedal Team
